Primary Role:

To oversee the academic program of the school including the curriculum, methods, materials, assessments, and data being used in the classrooms

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Current North Carolina license, or be in process of obtaining

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years school environment experience

Strategic Leadership Considers new ways of accomplishing academic tasks and is the leader of change Communicates strong professional beliefs that reflect the latest research and best practices Instructional Leadership Sets high standards for the professional practice of instruction and assessment that result in an accountable environment Creates an environment of practiced, distributive leadership and teacher empowerment Demonstrates knowledge of 21st-century curriculum, instruction, and assessment Ensures alignment between the school curriculum and the state's accountability program Cultural Leadership Understands the important role a school's culture contributes to the exemplary performance of the school Communicates strong ideals and beliefs with staff, parents, and students and operates from those beliefs Promotes a sense of well-being among staff, parents, and students Builds a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff Human Resource Leadership Participates in the processes and systems in place which result in the recruitment, induction, support, evaluation, development, and retention of a high-performing staff Creates processes for teachers to assume leadership and decision-making roles Provides for results-oriented professional development Systematically and personally involved in the school's professional activities Managerial Leadership Develop master schedule that provides collaborative planning for every teacher Assist in developing clear expectations, structures, rules, and procedures for students and staff External Development Leadership Contribute to the system that engages all community stakeholders in shared responsibility for student and school success Ensure compliance with state and TMSA mandates Micropolitical Leadership Foster systems and relationships with staff in order to leverage their expertise, power, and influence to realize the school's vision for success Promote an environment and mechanisms to ensure all internal stakeholder voices are heard and respected

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Follow all Board policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student, parent, and staff information
  • Support and promote the school's mission, vision, and culture
  • Create a collaborative learning environment for all students and teachers
  • Systematically and fairly acknowledge failures and celebrate accomplishments of the students and staff
  • Practice fair and consistent evaluations of teachers and teacher assistants
  • Communication that provides timely sharing of information with staff, parents, and students
  • Communicates school's accomplishments within TMSA and with the school community
  • Assist the principal in designing scheduling processes that maximize staff input and address diverse student learning needs
  • Collaborates with staff to create opportunities for parents, community, and businesses to enhance learning opportunities in the school
  • Be easily accessible to staff
  • Effectively delegate tasks to teachers/department chairs in a way that provides professional growth
  • Actively seek and apply feedback from staff, parents, and students
  • Resolve short-term issues while balancing them against long-term goals
  • Analyze student performance data
  • Effectively utilize the latest technology to continuously enhance student instruction
  • Manage time effectively, including running efficient meetings
  • Other duties, as assigned, by Principal
