Job Summary: Provide speech/language screenings, evaluations and services consistent with local, state and federal regulations.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required) - Valid SC Certification as a Speech Language Pathologist
Essential Duties - Provide speech/language services consistent with local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines
- Serve as a resource to school staff members in development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement
- Schedule meetings with appropriate persons to develop an Individualized Education Program for each speech handicapped student
- Provide a therapeutic program with goals and objectives from the student's Individualized Education Program to meet the needs of the speech and language handicapped students
- Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments
- Provide an assessment and diagnosis of speech and language handicapped students
- Provide screening to identify speech handicapped students at regular intervals and at specified levels
- Assist in appropriate referrals of individual students to agencies and specialists in the community as needed
- Confers with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities when requested and appropriate
- Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families of speech/language handicapped students when appropriate
- Provide staff development and serve as a resource to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement
- Maintain thorough ongoing records for each individual student receiving therapy including timely submission of records required as part of the IEP process (eligibility, placement, reevaluation and dismissal process), therapy data and all processes required for Medicaid billing
