Title: Library/Media Specialist/STEM teacher

Unity Elementary School seeks an energetic, motivated educator to serve as Library/Media Specialist/STEM teacher for grades K-8 for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year.

The Library/Media Specialist/STEM teacher will join a dynamic team and be a part of an enthusiastic, dedicated staff that is continuously moving on a journey to promote literacy for all students and build a broad and balanced library that reflects the diversity of the global community.

The primary duties of the Library Media Specialist / STEM Teacher are to:

  • Create a library program that turns the library into a full-service learning center that uses books and technology to promote literacy and equity for all students
  • Collaborate with teachers to find meaningful and innovative ways of integrating literacy and STEM into the curriculum
  • Deliver direct instruction to students around digital citizenship, STEM, and the interactions between humans, technology, and information
  • Responsible for working with elementary students in assisting with STEM-related curriculum initiatives, programs, and projects
  • Design and implement an interactive STEM curriculum that encourages creativity and innovation and aligns with state standards and school goals
  • Curriculum will include project-based learning, digital literacy, computer programming, and coding, while incorporating disciplinary literacy skills and facilitating authentic learning
  • Deliver engaging lessons that promote inquiry-based learning and encourage student exploration in STEM subjects
  • Provide instruction on research skills, digital citizenship, and the effective use of technology
  • Teach students how to think computationally and create new technologies
  • Ensure opportunities for library book check-out
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through formal and informal assessments, providing feedback to support learning
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learners and promotes collaboration
  • Utilize technology and digital resources to enhance student learning and engagement in STEM subjects
  • Work closely with other teachers, parents, and community partners to support student learning and promote STEM initiatives
  • Organize and lead extracurricular STEM-related clubs, competitions, and events
  • Host an annual Science Fair as an enrichment opportunity for students

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will inspire young learners through engaging and hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills through the authentic learning design process
  • Elementary Teaching License or Library Media Specialist License (Grades K-12)
  • Experience in teaching elementary students, preferably in STEM education
