Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for potential Foundations of Technology Teachers that may become available for the 2025 - 2026 school year. Working under the direction of the school principal, and the Supervisor of Career and Technology Education, this position develops students' skills and competence in business and industry, technical skills, the use of technology, and the ability to problem solve in a wide variety of settings. This position also works with students in decision making, interpersonal development, and academic growth by providing the strategies, resources, and instruction to enable each student to meet the demands of the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards.

DUTIES:
  • Develops and administers technology education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives; develops technology units to be delivered in the classroom;
  • Teaches skill and knowledge in mechanics, drafting, electricity, electronics, metalwork, graphic arts, robotics or related fields;
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning;
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, and utilizes appropriate equipment for subject area; translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction;
  • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of technical skills to everyday existence; guides students in the selection of projects or experiments;
  • Instructs students in the proper and safe use, care and storage of tools, machines and equipment;
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed;
  • Maintains familiarity with district and State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests;
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research;
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws;
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents;
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom;
  • Coordinates with other professionals, staff members, and others for the purpose of maximizing the uses and effectiveness of technology in student learning activities;
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records; ensures machines and equipment are in proper working order;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess, or be eligible for, a Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate;
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
  • Knowledge of Dorchester County Public Schools curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, Dorchester County Public Schools policies, and effective instructional practices;
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multi-cultural education;
  • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum;
  • Proficiency in the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards;
  • Possess an understanding of the Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for Students;
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community; and
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.

IBM-compatible computers are used throughout the system in individual classrooms as well as strategically placed computer labs. There are courses in Technology Simulations, Keyboarding, Computer Applications, and Computerized Accounting.

Every classroom has access to the Microsoft Office Products as well as to the Internet.

The Dual Enrollment Program with Chesapeake College and University of Maryland Eastern Shore offers the opportunity for the students who wish to get started on their college credits.

Family Support Services Resource Center for Families and Schools is designed to support children with disabilities from birth to 21. The center provides the skills and knowledge to enable families and children to understand the Special Education process.
