Job Description

Support in the attainment of district goals of the Library and Digital Commons through the delivery of library services to students, families, and staff. *Assignment may be shared between two campuses. NOTE: Individuals recommended for hire in a Library Instructional Assistant position or any other position requiring SBEC certification will be required to submit appropriate applications and fees as determined by SBEC to obtain certification. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. Perform assigned library tasks under the guidance of the Library and Digital Commons Department and Digital Teacher Librarian (DTL) or campus principal.

2. Assist the DTL or campus principal maintain the library collection by cataloguing, barcoding, and completing the inventory of all library-assigned materials including digital equipment books, STEM, and audio/visual.

3. Assist the DTL or campus principal with the distribution, collection, and inventory of library and textbook

materials.

4. Assist the DLT or campus principal with producing library reports including circulation statistics, overdue, and lost or damaged resources on a regular basis.

5. Ensure the organization, care, and maintenance of library and instructional resources.
6. Ensure timely shelving of books and resources to maintain a safe, organized, and inviting library.
7. Provide supervision and monitoring of students throughout the school day.

8. Participate in district-wide professional development to support library services.

9. Support campus and district-wide initiatives to promote literacy in the school and home.

10. Ensure familiarity and facilitation of library-related digital tools and resources including, but not limited to

ebooks and databases.

11. Assist the DLT or campus principal with completing the Library and Digital Commons Department tracking

of statistics and information data.

12. Ensure ongoing communication with library patrons on campus or district literacy events and programs.

13. Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

• Must have one of the following educational requirements:

o Associates degree or higher from an accredited college/university.

o A minimum of forty-eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college or university. o High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional

accrediting agency and completion of the paraeducator training course provided by Stedi.org with a passing score of 70% or higher or Treasuring Our Paraprofessionals certificate through Region XX (course fees are the responsibility of the applicant)

• Eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification.

• Work related experience with students (church-related schools, private schools, day camps, youth groups, licensed day care centers or similar experiences).

• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Working Conditions Work Environment:

• Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.

• Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc. )

Physical Demands/Requirements:

• Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
