Job Description
The Cosmetology teacher is responsible to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Cosmetology designed to fulfill their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills that will prepare them for success in higher education and society. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Analyze performance data to provide targeted instruction based on students' individual needs.
2. Expect and support all students earning their cosmetology license prior to high school graduation.
3. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program, reflect accommodations for learning style differences, and show written evidence of preparation as required.
4. Administer industry certification exam(s) and provide dual credit aligned to content knowledge as applicable.
5. Establish partnerships with industry partners to support student opportunities for job shadowing, internships, and certifications.
6. Provide time after school and summer to assist students to obtain their minimum hourly requirements for eligibility to test in Cosmetology.
7. Manage the campus-based salon, equipment, and lab for sanitation, safety, and as a professional business that provides services.
8. Maintain site and cosmetology license per Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation compliance requirements and inspections.
9. Present subject matter according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
10. Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and strategies according to district requirements.
11. Work with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students as identified in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
12. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

13. Plan with ESL teachers to support ELL students with mastery of content knowledge.
14. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
15. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
16. Support mission of school district by serving as a positive role model for students.
17. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
18. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
19. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
20. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilitiesexpected for this position.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
• Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned. Certification areas may include:
• Trade and Industrial Education: Grades 8-12 with appropriate work approval; or
• Vocational Trades and Industry with appropriate work approval.
• Student teaching, approved internship or appropriate work approval in the Cosmetology / Human Services industry.
• Current cosmetology instructor license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Preferred Requirements
• Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge and skills aligned to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. (TDLR)
• Knowledge of industry related software.
• Ability to work within PC and Macintosh platforms.
• Ability to align Cosmetology curriculum and instruction to industry certification exams.
• Knowledge of State Performance Based Monitoring Analysis System (PBMAS) and ability to analyze and document data for improved student performance.
• Knowledge of project-based learning programs.
• Ability to market Cosmetology program to students, staff, parents, and business community.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment.
Working Conditions Work Environment:
• Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.

• Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.
Physical Demands/Requirements:
• Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
Supervisory Responsibilities / Direct Reports
• Supervise students and monitor workflow of instructional assistants as appropriate.
