Prevention Education Specialist is a 10 month position.

General Description

Serves as a resource to implement prevention education strategies within the Wood County schools and communities. Works with students, teachers, administrators and parents in prevention education using evidence-based programs that promote social-emotional learning and safe school drug-free environments.

Qualifications

Valid driver's license.
Bachelor's degree required with background in social work, education, human development and family studies or related field.
Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist (OCPS) certification or willingness to obtain.
Experience preferred (not required) in substance use, gambling, mental health and/or relationship violence prevention education.
Essential Functions
Remain abreast of prevention education guidelines, policies and directives on the federal, state and local level.
Communicate with school administration and staff on progress of prevention education programming.
Represent the interest of identified youth by serving on various community and prevention-related committees.
Help students become productive citizens through prevention education strategies.
Assist Wood County students in increasing developmental assets.
Collaborate with school staff in identifying students needing assistance and providing educational screenings and referrals as appropriate.
Help develop county-wide and local community programming based on local data.
Contribute to grant writing process to subsidize funding of special projects.
Submit Service Activity Log (SAL) information and other required reports to supervisor in a timely manner to generate reports for the ADAMHS Board and other funders.
Follow up on referrals in a timely manner and direct referrals to appropriate resources and agencies.
Other Duties

Serve as a role model for students on how to conduct themselves as substance-free citizens;
Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values, and;
Conduct any other activities/duties as assigned by the Program Manager/Supervisor.
Additional Working Conditions

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
Occasional interaction among unruly children.
