Job Description
The Director, Building Trades is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the maintenance of district facilities through effective budget management, timely and accurate reports, and collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders. Manages the quality assurance and quality control process of construction and capital projects to ensure adherence to district, local, and state building standards. Responsible for the scheduling and supervision of facility maintenance and repair activities, environmental and health & safety services, contracted services, and grounds services, and ensuring the physical operation of the school district meets budgetary and strategic objectives.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Schedules and supervises maintenance workers engaged in building and grounds upkeep and repair, responsible for health & safety, environmental, exterior/interior finishes, and quality assurance/quality control services. Follow up on work assignments to ensure timely completion and quality of work is up to par.
2. Analyzes data provided by Facilities Managers to ensure services are properly monitored to accommodate the districts' needs within budget constraints.
3. Ensures that contracted maintenance services are properly monitored to accommodate facilities' needs within budget constraints.
4. Plans and implements preventive maintenance programs to ensure facilities meet or exceed expectations.
5. Ensuring training of employees to proper standards, overseeing the evaluation of employee performance, directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary, and planning the professional development of Building Trades personnel.
6. Ensures deadlines provided by department are met and quality of the work meets or exceeds districts' standards.
7. Ensures staff receive appropriate safety training.
8. Collaborates with schools and administration and provides recommendations as necessary to ensure
facilities services meets campus and district needs.
9. Responsible for the review of work orders and determining proper supplies and equipment.
10. Manages budgetary expenditures and works in support of Executive Director's priorities to ensure
construction operations meets governmental regulations.
11. Place the goals of SAISD foremost when interacting with others at all levels. Guides an environment that
fosters teamwork and enhanced task accomplishment through positive and supportive cooperation.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilitiesexpected for this position. Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years' equivalent experience, and • 3+ years professional experience in Construction Management, Building Maintenance, or related function, and • Progressive leadership experience to include:
o Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, and Managing employees or teams. o Coaching, Mentoring, Developing, and Performance Managing employees or teams, and • Experience in building maintenance and repair • Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record. Meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility.
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Preferred Qualifications • 10+ years professional experience in Construction Management, Building Maintenance, or a related
function, and • 4+ years of progressive leadership experience to include:
o Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, and Managing employees or teams. o Coaching, Mentoring, Developing, and Performance Managing employees or teams, and • 3+ years in building maintenance and repair • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
