Job Description Position Open Until FilledGeneral Description: The school counselor supports the academic success of all students and enhances maximum development of career and personal/social goals using strategies in alignment with national, state, and local standards; and school needs.
Essential Responsibilities:- Provides individual counseling to students to support academic success, transition/adjustment to the school program and level
- Provides counseling through group activities for students in areas related to successful functioning in the school setting
- Provides classroom support in accordance with current state and division curriculum
- Provides crisis intervention, information, and referrals in reference to students' needs
- Oversees registration process with students and parents new to the school/division
- Oversees Standardized Assessment of students and interpretation of data to students, parents, and staff
- Conducts classroom observations of students who are referred for individual needs, special education evaluations, or may be at risk to self or others
- Assists students with requirements regarding a planned and balanced program of studies consistent with abilities, interests, and educational needs
- Monitors students' progress regarding State-mandated credits and assessments
- Provides affective education to students identified as gifted and referrals for specialized gifted education options
- Provides behavioral management support to students, staff, and parents
- Provide leadership to the School-Based Intervention Team, 504 Team, Progress Assessment Team, and other student assistance teams, as appropriate
- Provides referrals to resources to support educational progress for the student both within and outside of the division
- Provides programs and activities to increase parent involvement and awareness of issues related to student success
- Provides consultation to teachers, administrators, and other professionals, as appropriate, to enhance student success
- Assists with the coordination of student support programs including Character Education and Conflict Resolution
- Participates in and leads staff development promoting student success, as directed by Principal
- Performs related duties as required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:- Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure in School Counseling
- Successful teaching and/or counseling experience with at least 3 years experience preferred
- Demonstrates the professional and personal characteristics for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel and community agencies
Note: Individuals who hold a professional counseling or social work license may be eligible for provisional school counseling licensure. This is an 11-month 220 day position.2026-2027 Salary: TBD
