: Director of Special Education and School Principal RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Speech Language Pathologist or Speech Therapist is directly responsible to the Special Education Director for Instruction and Personnel for general administration and to the Principal in each respective building. The Speech and Hearing Therapist provides speech and hearing therapy services for children in grades Birth through 12th Grade. Performance Responsibilities:
Screens children for possible speech difficulties.
Evaluates all children referred by school personnel for possible speech
Tests hearing for all children as assigned.
Provides speech, reading, and auditory training for children with hearing difficulties.
Provides speech therapy for children with speech disorders associated with functional and organic problems including: articulation voice disfluency Speech difficulties associated with hearing loss, cerebral dysfunction, and cleft palate. Delayed and impaired speech and language development
Works cooperatively with others, including the teacher, psychologist, health nurse, and counselor.
Consults with teachers and counselors concerning problems relating to speech, hearing, and language development in the classroom.
Interprets the speech and hearing therapy program to parents and works with them to assist their children in carrying over their newly acquired speech skills.
Cooperates through proper channels with community agencies concerned about children with speech and hearing difficulties.
Keeps up to date records for each child tested or enrolled in the therapy program.
Supervises Speech Language Pathology Assistants in compliance with South Dakota guidelines, if assigned.
Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: Salary and work year will be established by the Oglala Lakota County School Board. EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the principal and/or Special Education Director. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK:
