Reports to: Head of Special Education

Qualifications:
Valid Pennsylvania DOE School Psychologist Certificate or eligibility.Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs designed for students with learning, physical and behavioral disabilities.Knowledge of medical and psychosocial issues related to individuals with learning, developmental, and/or emotional disabilities. Appropriate State of Pennsylvania Department of Education Teaching Certificate in Special Education preferred. A minimum of 3 years teaching experience with special education Strong understanding of special education law and code, ability to write comprehensive and legally defensible Individual Educational Programs (IEPs), assist with implementation of intervention strategies, accommodations and modifications of curriculum. Able to prepare and implement behavior management plans and to communicate to general education teachers how to implement IEPs. Strong writing and communication skills.Required school clearances and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Job Overview:

Determines the eligibility of students for special education by administering and interpreting cognitive, academic achievement and social-emotional functioning assessments. Inform teachers and parents about student needs. Participates is student planning conferences for IEP and Section 504 meetings. Provides leadership in planning, implementing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating Special Education programming across the school in alignment with MaST Schools. paraprofessionals in all aspects of implementation of the Special Education process kindergarten through age 21. The Special Education Coordinator also supports administrators, general education teachers, guidance counselors, and other professional support staff in meeting the needs of students in need of services.

Responsibilities:

Review student records and analyze information pertinent to student learning and school adjustment needs.Select, administer, score and interpret individual tests of intelligence, academic achievement, psychological processing, and personality and attitudes to referred students.Conduct informal and formal observations of students as part of the evaluation process.Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary assessment team that determines student eligibility for special education and develops the recommended educational program for the individual studentWrites evaluation reports, functional behavioral assessment write-ups, and positive behavior support plans.Coordinate and implement Functional Behavior Assessments for students with Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).Complete periodic reevaluation of all students in special education programsAssist in planning in-service for staff when needed. Evaluate students with significant physical or behavior problems and effectively convey the results to parents and educatorsMaintain respect at all times for confidential information (student testing information)Evaluate pre-school children for whom some forms of special education or therapy appear to be indicated. Conducts off-site observations of pre-school children entering the school from other programs.Act as a resource person in providing the school assistance with their wide screening assessment of kindergartens and pre-school students for the early identification of learning problems or developmental delaysProvide consultation services for teachers.Conduct activities in accordance with the Pennsylvania School Psychology Association Code of Ethics.Provide training and technical assistance to case managers, teachers, related service providers and support service professionals on all aspects of case management, including use of computer systems for the special education process, writing of goal writing, progress reports, annual reviews and parent communication.Work with paraprofessionals, special education staff, and other appropriate school staff to develop professional development goals that support special education students' access to the general curriculum.Support the planning and implementation of special education initiatives. Integrate new developments, research findings and best practices into ongoing programs and new initiatives.Keep informed of legal requirements governing special education issues.Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) months. Contract terms and salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of state law, administrative code, and the Board's policy on evaluation of the school psychologist.
