Specialist, Marketing Communications

What do you do all day?

At NMSI, our people mean everything to us, they are the lifeblood of the organization. Without our staff, NMSI is just an idea. The Marketing Communications Specialist plays an important role in NMSI’s content marketing while supporting sales marketing, fundraising, stewardship, and other external communication activities. The Specialist, Marketing Communications reports to the Director, Marketing Communications. This full-time role is based out of our office in Dallas, Texas or from a home office anywhere in the contiguous United States.

What are the details?

• Use testimonials and other information from external and internal teams, such as Data, Analytics and Evaluation and Teaching and Learning, that provides statistical and anecdotal evidence of the benefits NMSI delivers to school systems, educators, students and communities to develop content marketing assets, such as blogs, social media posts and whitepapers.
• Use software, such as Canva, InDesign and PowerPoint, to design content and sales marketing assets, including one-pagers and presentation decks.
• Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to execute NMSI’s organic social media strategy.
• Support the Digital Marketing Manager and the Marketing Communications Director by producing copy and design assets that meet sales, fundraising and stewardship needs.
• Support the Vice President of External Affairs, Marketing and Communications by monitoring trade and general news sources for opportunities to raise awareness for NMSI.
• Complete other content development and asset design as needed to support external communications.
• Other duties as assigned

What are we looking for?

• Education & Experience – You have a bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field and at least two years of experience in marketing content and design.
• Strong Designer – You have demonstrated skills in InDesign, PowerPoint or similar software to effectively design engaging and effective marketing assets; experience in Adobe Illustrator is a plus.
• Strong Writer – You can efficiently digest information to quickly write copy that is engaging and effective in driving desired outcomes.
• Organized & Productive – You are a master at juggling competing projects and priorities; you are adept at planning your day and not letting distractions keep you from meeting your goals.
• Reliable – You can work effectively with minimal supervision, but you also know when to ask for help.
• Flexible – You are comfortable working in an ambiguous environment with competing priorities; you’re able to travel, including weekends.
• Growth Mindset – You learn from failure and crave feedback because you know that it makes you better; you are also eager to give feedback to your manager or colleagues.
