Job Description

MISSION: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will improve outcomes for all public-school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems.

POSITION OVERVIEW: This position serves as director of the Scoring and Reporting unit in the Performance Reporting Division reporting to the Director of Accountability and Reporting. The role is responsible for directing scoring, reporting, quality control, and analysis of student performance data for the state assessment program which is critical to improving outcomes for students by providing accurate performance data to students and school districts. This position works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directing all activities and products related to the scoring, reporting, quality control, and analysis of the data for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), STAAR Alternate 2, and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS, TELPAS Alternate 2); 
  • Monitoring the data management and reporting functions with the assessment program’s contractors to ensure that contractual requirements are met for scoring and reporting; 
  • Coordinating the creation, use, and verification of assessment data in the state and federal accountability system; 
  • Reviewing documents for Performance Reporting, Student Assessment, and Performance Based Monitoring;
  • Providing and presenting information and training about scoring and reporting policies to a variety of audiences inside and outside the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: At least (5) years of experience in managing and directing projects in planning, research, education, assessment, or a related field and/or in the analysis, design, and implementation of complex computer systems using the SAS programming language.

Substitutions: An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience.
