The African American Achievement Specialist will assist the Director of African American Achievement and Equity in the research and development of organization wide and school specific initiatives that accelerate the academic and social outcomes of African American students within Green Dot Public Schools.


Professional Development and Organization-Wide Initiatives:
Provide professional development to teachers and administrators regarding culturally responsive teaching practices that leverage the unique assets African American students bring to the classroom
Assist with development of anti-bias curriculum and co-facilitate trainings
Assist with the planning and facilitation of African American Achievement Committee meetings

School Site Support:
Provide coaching for teachers that includes focused observations, feedback and micro-modeling of research based best practices that support a range of African American students
Assist in the development of guidelines for demonstration classrooms that model a "Ready for Rigor" collectivist classroom culture in which African American students thrive academically and socially

Data Analysis and Programming:
Work collaboratively with the Advisory and School Culture Team to help create African American specific advisories and Black Student Unions that target the diverse needs of African American students
Use data to determine obstacles to African American Achievement and collaborate with the Director of African American Achievement and Equity to design appropriate responses to the data
Collaborate with other Home Office departments as needed to support African American Student Achievement initiatives and systems of support
Engage in other duties as needed to advance the interests and outcomes of African American students

A valid CA Clear Single Subject or Multiple Subject teaching credential (or an equivalent out-of-state credential which is transferable to California) is required
You have at least four years of successful full time teaching experience at the secondary school level
You have worked in an urban school setting
You are passionate about improving outcomes for African American students and families and deep knowledge of best practices for doing so
You have a proven track record of improving outcomes for African American students
You are able to analyze complex data and create plans to address trends
You are experienced in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and related Google applications
You have a demonstrated record of taking initiative, building consensus, and solving complex problems through effective change and project management
You have a demonstrated record of effectively building, managing and sustaining impactful programs and systems
You are able to work independently, manage time effectively and work as a member of a team
You have excellent interpersonal communication and written skills
You have a strong ethical base and self-awareness
You have experience in collaborative planning and delivery of staff development to adult learners
You are able to travel to other sites/locations (a valid CA driver's license is required)
You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot's mission and the communities we serve
You have a valid CA driver's license: job requires work at multiple sites
You will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

The annual salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience.
