Social WorkerTerms of Employment:
20 hours per week, 10 monthsPosition Description:
Support the social emotional well-being of students through working with families by providing outreach, assisting families locate and apply for resources, and support the efforts of the school in improving student attendance.Qualifications:
Valid Pupil Personnel Services License with an endorsement in school social work
A minimum of one year of successful experience as a school social worker is preferred.
Excellent communications, organizational, public relations and presentation skills are required.
Must have experience and/or demonstrate a willingness to work with diverse students, parents and communities.
Must have the ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, teachers and administrators.
Must have the ability to work in a cooperative, collaborative manner with administrators, teachers, parents and other professionals about student problems and appropriate change strategies.
Must be able to establish appropriate networks with school programs, community agencies and resources to provide essential services for families and children.
Ability to work with students who have had a history of academic, attendance and behavioral challenges required.
Must have valid Virginia driver's licenseEssential Functions:
Presents findings to and participates in meetings of the school School Based Intervention Teams, Eligibility Teams, Section 504 Teams, and IEP Teams.
Conducts social history interviews and prepares/presents the report to Eligibility Teams.
Attends and participates in School Based Intervention Teams and investigates issues which surface through School Referral Forms.
Conducts home visits as necessary during assessments and investigations.
Reviews student records, maintains copies of all reports in an orderly fashion and submits monthly activity reports.
Reviews student attendance data in order to support principals and find the most appropriate resources to assist students
Serves on the school crisis team and refers students to, and serves as liaison with, outside agencies such as the social services bureau, juvenile probation, juvenile detention and the juvenile court.
Counsels with students and parents concerning living and learning environments and assists in diagnosing students' special needs.
Assists students in gaining vocational experiences.
Assists families in connecting with community resources.
Provides support to enhance students' social skill development.
Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent or designee.Physical Requirements:
Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking and light lifting up to 10 pounds. Effective verbal and written communication skills for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
