Clarksdale Collegiate Public Charter School prepares scholars in the Mississippi Delta to excel in high school and college by providing rigorous instruction within a structured, ambitious, and jubilant school community. We are unapologetically college preparatory and work relentlessly to achieve our urgent and ambitious mission. 


Clarksdale Collegiate is seeking a dynamic and financially savvy leader to serve as the Director of Finance. This leader will lead our finance, accounting, and human resources functions that fuel our progress toward impact, sustainability, and scale. The Director will report directly to the Executive Director and will grow to oversee multiple functions and team members. The Director will be charged with building and strengthening financial policies and procedures and collaborating with staff across every level of our school. This is an exciting time to join the Clarksdale Collegiate community as we are in the midst of expanding our impact to serve more scholars and families. Over the next four years, we will grow to serve approximately 675 scholars across grades K-8. Given this, The Director of Finance will play a key role in stewarding our growth. 


Roles and Responsibilities


Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable Management

  • Manage purchase order request and approval process 
  • Review weekly bills, invoices and credit card transactions for accuracy and timely payment
  • Reconcile monthly deposits and post transactions to accounting system
  • Serve as second reviewer for funds received on campus


Grants Management (Federal and Private)

  • Support Executive Director with development of School Improvement Plan and budget alignment
  • Develop budgets for both private and federal grants that align both the school budget and grant purpose
  • Ensure all assets purchased with grant funds are properly tracked in asset management system
  • Develop best practices for accurately tracking time and effort reports for grant-funded positions
  • Reconcile all federal and private grants to ensure all funds are properly allocated and fully expended


Audit and Compliance

  • Develop and ensure compliance with sound fiscal policies and internal control procedures that incorporate best practices and review on an annual basis
  • Manage all financial audits and oversee tax reporting (990s) with external accounting firm
  • Coordinate annual 1099 issuance and filing


Financial Management

  • Conduct month-end close procedures (journal entries, bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliation, etc.)
  • Establish key fiscal metrics / performance indicators and manage cash flow accordingly
  • Develop and maintain a clear understanding of funding cycles and impact on cash flow
  • Prepare monthly reports for the Executive Director, including but not limited to financial statements for presentation at the finance committee and  board meetings 
  • Lead the Board of Directors finance committee  


Human Resources and Legal Compliance 

  • Establish / improve processes for hiring, onboarding, retaining and termination employees, including but not limited to filing systems and compliance with employment laws and regulations
  • Ensure proper processing of all employee paperwork, including background checks, I9s, W4s, benefits selection and other related documentation
  • Process bi-monthly payroll for all staff accurately and on time
  • Oversee all payroll related required filings with payroll vendor
  • Develop / improve personnel policies and revise the staff handbook as needed
  • Provide guidance to the Head of School for all staff related personnel concerns 
  • Manage relationship with legal and benefits management organizations and consult for legal and personnel management matters
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to monitor and address compliance matters, including legal and governmental concerns


Strategic Planning and Improvement

  • Prepare and monitor the annual budget to strengthen our organizational health. 
  • Develop and maintain 5-year financial plan that incorporates key staffing and enrollment decisions
  • Be a growth planning thought partner for the Executive Director and Director Operations
  • Ensure fiscal policies and procedures align with growth plan
  • Stay abreast of key financial management best practices
