Job Description

The Scituate School Department is seeking qualified applicants for two (2) 17 hour per week paraprofessional positions at Scituate Middle/High School:
One position is Monday and Tuesday 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM; and Wednesday 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM; and
One position is Wednesday 10:15 AM to 2:15 PM; and Thursday and Friday 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM

Candidates must hold paraprofessional certificate, passing ParaPro test results and must have a clear national background check with fingerprints completed at the RI Attorney General's office.

  • TITLE: Special Education Assistant Classroom

    IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

    JOB SUMMARY: Primary responsibility is to assist special education students with academic work and the implementation of the student's Individualized Educational Program.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Perform under special needs teacher's supervision and direction in all areas of school activities and instruction.

    2. He/she shall be expected to:

    a. Follow special needs teacher's direction in maintaining classroom structure and behavioral control.
    b. Assist teacher in academic instruction as identified in and prescribed by Individual Education Programs.
    c. Assist in inclusion activities supporting students in the general education setting.
    d. Assist in non-academic instruction carried out by itinerant teachers.
    e. Assist in correcting student's assignments, editing or clarifying (simplifying), enlarging general education worksheets as modified by the Special Education teacher.
    f.
    g. Assist in carrying out programs designed by the physical and/or occupational and/or speech therapists. Assistants shall not be required to perform therapy without prior training from the therapist and they shall not perform any therapy without a signed written directive from the Office of the Director of Special Education.
    h. Supervise recess and lunch periods.
    i. Assist physically challenged children in the use of wheel chairs and/or other adaptive equipment if appropriately trained.
    j. Supervise children leaving and entering transportation vehicles, classrooms and buildings.
    k.Supervise children during field trips.
    l. Provide clerical and secretarial duties.
    m.Administer the school rules and regulations governing student behavior.
    n.Supervise children before school, during recess, during lunch periods, and at dismissal.
    o. Perform any and all related duties assigned by the building principal or the Director of Special Education subject to Article 21.

    ANNUAL REQUIREMENTS: Special Education Assistant shall be evaluated every two years by the school principal.

    LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: Regular School Year.
