Job Description

What do you do all day?

At NMSI, our people mean everything to us, they are the lifeblood of the organization. Without our staff, NMSI is just an idea. The Manager, Development and Grants will support fundraising functions related to federal and state grant proposals and private foundations, and handle grant prospecting and research. The Manager reports to the Senior Manager, Development & Grants. This role can be based from our main office in Dallas or from a home office anywhere in the contiguous US.


What are the details? 

  • Federal & State Grants (30%) 
    • Support Senior Manager in executing federal grant proposals via maintenance of federal systems (grants.gov, sam.gov, IRB, etc.) and support as needed on proposal development. 
    • Maintain necessary documentation required for grant submissions. 
    • Conduct research and develop briefs on state funding opportunities. Collaborate with Senior Manager and external resources to surface opportunities to pursue grant funding within priority states.
  • Proposal Support (60%)
    • Maintain fundraising resources and support proposal development as needed, including proposal drafting, research, coordinating review, etc. 
    • Manage processes with online proposals and submission
    • Ensure appropriate documentation for financial and programmatic commitments and sharing amongst teams, (i.e. MOUs, grant agreements, partnership agreements, contracts)
    • Managing reporting schedule and deadlines to ensure that milestones are met in a timely manner
    • Track all deadlines and requirements
    • Write narrative reports and gather necessary data
    • Liaise with Data & Analytics team to ensure that we have updated data and information; work with other teams as needed to gather quantitative and qualitative information (Program Management Delivery & Operations, Teaching & Learning, Finance)
    • Ensure that all grants documents are properly stored and archived, including proposal and grant reporting information
  • Prospect Research (10%)
    • Support fundraising and cultivation teams with robust market research in priority regions  
    • Identify and qualify new donor prospects capable of significant financial support for NMSI programs  
    • Conduct high-quality research on national and regional donor prospects to determine fit and inform cultivation and solicitation strategy  
    • Writing donor profiles for tier 1 candidates  
    • Meeting materials preparation and event support for large briefings and community events 
  • Other duties as assigned
