ABOUT US

The Primary School is expanding the boundaries of traditional education. Our holistic model weaves together education, health, and family support services to ensure underserved children have the system of care they need to lead meaningful and emotionally, mentally, and physically healthy lives. We received seed funding by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a major national philanthropy.

Our approach has three defining characteristics:

  • We start early. We start working with parents and enroll children into our program as early as birth to reach them at their most critical stage in development.
  • We work with - not around - families. We know that parents and caregivers are the most important people in a child’s life. We partner with them to enhance the education and health of their children.
  • We integrate multiple systems to serve the whole child. Our unique model unites health care and education, building a multi-disciplinary team and holistic system of care around a child’s full needs.

In 2016, we opened our flagship school in East Palo Alto, California, with our first class of four-year-olds. We have grown to serve nearly  250 children and their families. In the fall, we will have classes for children in Pre-K3 (3 year-olds), Pre-K4 (4 year-olds), Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. We will continue to open a new grade every year through eighth grade.

Our ultimate goal is to create a game-changing system of care for children that can be replicated across the country. To that end, we are building a model that can be effectively implemented in diverse communities and sustained on public funding. In 2019, we plan to both expand our student and family 

population in East Palo Alto and pursue opening our next site in the Bay Area. It’s an exciting time to join the team!

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Manager of Regional Operations is responsible for ensuring strong operational supports for the central office and site operations teams, and managing a range of special projects to support strategic and operational priorities as The Primary School grows.

Operations Management

  • Ensure successful implementation of site operations through systems development, staff training, and regular quality control & monitoring (includes physical space, resources, IT, health, attendance, meal program, safety/emergency, and all other core site operations)
  • Develop and maintain strong documentation of universal site operations processes, policies, and procedures and support site teams to modify for local use
  • Support the recruitment, on-boarding, and ongoing coaching and development of site operations staff across sites
  • Ensure site staff have the data tools and systems they need to capture and use information effectively, including through support and training (e.g., PowerSchool, Atlas).
  • Manage centralized procurement and inventory across sites, managing vendor relationships and overseeing efficient, responsive processes for purchasing and inventory management
  • Manage centralized IT support services including purchasing and support across sites, managing vendor relationships and ensuring staff have the materials and equipment needed
  • Provide a supportive work environment to central office staff in the form of work space, materials/supplies, and tools, including managing vendors to support the work environment for staff (e.g., IT/desktop support services, janitorial services)

Facilities & Space Planning

  • Drive annual and multi-year space planning within and across sites, partnering with leadership team to evaluate options and support timely planning and decision-making
  • Oversee annual and ongoing space setup and licensing process across sites to meet program, licensing, and budget needs (e.g., renovation, furnishing, room norms)

Program Management

  • Manage the school nutrition program across sites: manage application and reporting process, manage vendors, train and monitor staff processes to ensure efficiency and compliance
  • Manage state preschool program across sites: manage application and reporting process, train and monitor staff processes to ensure efficiency and compliance, partner with Finance team on fiscal compliance reporting
  • Codify and train staff on enrollment policies and processes
  • Manage additional public program areas as identified for implementation
  • Support site teams in other compliance areas as needed (e.g., DRDP, ECERS, CLASS)

Planning & Performance Management

  • Partner with the leadership team to coordinate a clear process for annual and multi-year planning that translates vision and priorities into actionable goals and resource plans
  • Facilitate planning cycles that support strong focus, execution, and ongoing reflection across goals, including the process by which teams develop and monitor 90-day goals/KPIs

For all of these areas, the Senior Manager of Operations will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with program and functional leads from across the organization on project scope of work and goals
  • Developing and managing project plans, including coordination of other resources
  • Reporting regularly on progress
  • Managing any project budget
  • Soliciting regular feedback to improve effectiveness and progress towards goals

ABOUT YOU

  • You have experience and fluency with school operations, facilities, and experience with opening sites and managing end-of-year closing preferred
  • You have experience and fluency in creating and maintaining data systems

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent health benefits, 401k retirement plan, flexible spending account (FSA), dependent care FSA, and generous paid time off, including a competitive paid parental leave benefit.
