The part-time Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant position works under the direction and supervision of a credentialed Speech and Language Pathologist and will work with elementary school students in screening, and treating disorders of communication. These disorders of speech and language may include issues with articulation, fluency, voice, verbal and written language, auditory comprehension, and cognition communication. This position will develop and execute specific components of a speech and language program as specified in an individualized educational plan (IEP) as well as support the larger Rocketship community.

Key Responsibilities:
    • Address student's speech production, vocal production, and language needs through speech therapy according to students' Individualized Education Program (IEP).
    • Follows goals and treatment plan developed by the Speech-Language Pathologist.
    • Deliver direct services via pre-referral interventions and monitor student progress in pre-referral interventions Tier 1 and Tier 2.
    • Document and collect data on all therapy sessions.
    • Develop instructional materials and evaluate commercially available material for treatment.
    • Keep current on the latest development in the field of speech therapy by attending professional seminars, reading current literature and participating in professional organizations as assigned, attending meetings, workshops, and in-service trainings.
    • Provide professional development support to school staff and families.
    • Manage time efficiently, follow schedule and inform appropriate personnel of departures from schedule.
    • Assists with conducting speech-language screenings, using appropriate prescribed techniques and devices; confers with Speech-Language Pathologist regarding student progress.
    • Documents student progress toward IEP goals and objectives by preparing records, charts, and other means of documentation.
    • Performs a variety of clerical support duties such as maintaining records, files and preparing reports related to assigned students as well as provide appropriate documentation to the interdisciplinary team.1111111111111111111
    • Prepares for use in the classroom therapy materials and such as picture cards and games, and equipment, such as augmentative communication devices.
    • Adapts or modifies instructional materials as determined by student needs for teacher use.
    • May participate in parent conferences and pupil instruction and planning processes.
    • Work independently under direct and indirect supervision.
    • Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward students.
    • Motivate and encourage positive learning patterns and behavior to students with special needs.
    • Demonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities within the learning environment.
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Demonstrate confidence, tact, and the use of good judgment.
    • Plan and organize work; Meet schedules and timelines.

Required Qualifications:

Licensed as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with the State of California. Bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese (strongly preferred, but not required). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and work closely with a wide range of staff members (educators, school administrators, senior management.) Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
