Job Description

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Senior Impact Coach ensures City Year corps members achieve school-based results. This person would be responsible for partnering with other members of the team to coach corps members throughout all aspects of their work with students across City Year’s program model, Whole School Whole Child, and focus on attendance, behavior and course performance initiatives.  This includes having a portfolio of up to 3 Columbia area schools and up to 25 corps members. In addition, the Impact Coach is responsible for the creation and/or improvement of Whole School Whole Child implementation tools and trackers used for formative and summative reporting as well as developing and facilitating content for trainings. The Impact Coach is the subject matter expert responsible for supporting our school based teams and ensuring we achieve positive student results throughout the fiscal year (July-June).  Additionally, the Impact Coach will manage City Year Columbia’s Teacher Pathways collaboration with Columbia College Partnership. Columbia College’s Center of Excellence is the partnering program where CY Columbia AmeriCorps members will get the opportunity to earn a M.Ed. in Divergent Learning and obtain alternative teacher certification.  This is an opportunity to contribute to the educational ecosystem in Columbia and support Corps Members in their after City Year success.


During the fiscal year the Impact Coach will ensure student level success by:

Supporting student level impact through coaching and supporting Corps Members and Program Managers

Providing one-on-one and team-level academic intervention training and support to City Year Columbia corps members. Providing focused support to help corps members deliver quality tutoring for their students to help improve grades, complete homework, and organize for success in school.

Working alongside Impact Managers to support corps members through observations and coaching sessions.

  • conduct co-observations
  • coordinate with other Impact staff to review progress made and additional areas to work on.
  • Issue assessment report on challenges, achievements, best practices and lessons learned from observations, bi-monthly check-ins and trainings delivered.

Supporting overall service at City Year Columbia: Attending and reporting on service quality in Program and Service bi-monthly progress performance meetings. Supporting execution of service assessments:

  • Ensuring corps members are equipped to deliver high quality tutoring each year.
  • Ensuring corps members understand assessment scores and incorporate that information into their lesson planning.

Conduct co-observations to demonstrate how to deliver feedback to corps members in order to achieve impact.  Support achieving impact with additional service implementation concerns as needed. Help diagnose service implementation issues and recommend solutions by observing service and reviewing data. Serve as subject matter or technical expert in performance results meetings with teachers and school leadership. Work with Impact Team to help create and facilitate service-based learning and development sessions throughout the fiscal year.

During the fiscal year the Impact Coach will also drive City Year Columbia’s Teacher Pathways collaboration by:

Serving as a liaison between Second Year AmeriCorps Members (SYCM) accepted into Columbia College Teacher Talent Pipeline program Working with ED to ensure partnership MOU is met Providing City Year Government Relations team with program updates and monitor SYCM activities as it relates to AmeriCorps grant compliance As part of the Teacher Pathways coaching support team, assist City Year participants in the development and delivery of 4 lesson plans.

Experience required

  • 2+ years of teaching and/or instructional coaching experience (preferably in secondary math) OR Experience with adult learning (supervising student teachers, facilitating professional development or study groups at school or other organization)
  • Knowledge of general curriculum (literacy and math preferred) and assessments
  • Demonstrated success in differentiating instruction and improving student achievement
  • Knowledge of standards-based assessments and instruction a must
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel
