Job Description

City Year Chicago seeks an experienced, collaborative, and innovative Diversity Partnerships Director to support the City Year Chicago site in developing a broader lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion and sustaining partnerships within the community. Reporting to the Senior Director of People & Operations the Diversity Partnerships Director is responsible for driving strategy of diversity, equity, and inclusion work throughout the City Year Chicago site.

The Diversity Partnerships Director will be the primary driver of City Year Chicago’s diversity and partnerships strategy to leverage all community assets to reach our key target audiences and expand its existing good will brand. To accomplish this, the Diversity Partnerships Director will manage local recruiter on strategic planning, goal setting and tracking, and ensuring high levels of success and accountability for results.


Strategic Partnerships, Strategy Development, Collaboration, and Execution

  • Manage local recruiter to establish and develop relationships to increase diverse recruitment pipelines for people of color from Chicago that generate applications to City Year Chicago.  Work with recruiter to execute outreach plan that will facilitate both organic and systemic recruitment leads and produce at least 125 applications to serve at City Year Chicago.
  • Work with local recruiter to evaluate success of recruitment events occurring throughout the community.
  • Work alongside the Senior Director of People and Operations managing existing partnerships that provide strategic benefits for AmeriCorps members. (i.e. housing, credentialing, living in Chicago).
  • Work with site staff to create annual and long-term Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategic goals and benchmarks.
  • Lead analysis of current state of DEI work to determine priorities, recommendations, and action steps including more inclusive policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and leverage AmeriCorps member, alumni, and staff connections to inform and advance all local partnership efforts.
  • Coordinate with all City Year Chicago internal departments in capturing, and communicating, the site-specific value proposition of serving with City Year.

Diversity, Training, Facilitation, and Resources

  • Work with department leaders to build a culture where staff are engaged and accountable in DEI efforts and understanding.
  • Lead the DEI Committee to engage staff in this work and deepen our site’s DEI efforts
  • Facilitate or secure external facilitators to foster dialogue (cultural competence, social justice, identity-work, etc.) amongst staff to create an environment of learning and support.
  • Work towards establishing a baseline learning curriculum with DEI resources for staff.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to support affinity or employee resource groups.


  • 5-7 years of professional experience in diversity, recruitment, or marketing experience
  • Compelling communication skills to ensure connectivity to mission and appropriate style to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in working with organizational leaders across departments to conduct analysis and generate insight regarding critical organizational questions
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present ideas with clarity, credibility, humility and tact; lead with “the why” and apply emotional intelligence to projects and communicate.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and plan for questions, listen carefully, provide constructive feedback, and remain open and responsive to feedback
  • Proven success operating in ambiguous and changing environments with the demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize projects, execute strategic plans, delegate tasks, and manage progress against goals for self and others, while addressing barriers to success
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and take initiative in managing several projects with the utmost attention to detail.
  • Experience planning and executing high performance events.
  • Possesses openness, responsiveness, approachability and understanding of others’ perspectives with the demonstrated ability to maintain and build relationships through collaboration.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a collaborative team environment.
