College Track is a national nonprofit that empowers students from underserved communities to graduate from college. From ninth grade through college graduation, students access academic, financial, and social-emotional support along with one-on-one coaching, career exposure, and other holistic growth opportunities. Our uniquely seamless, 10-year commitment to students and individualized approach are the keys to our ongoing transformative impact: College Track students graduate from four-year colleges at double the rate of their low-income and first-generation peers; and, five years after graduation, 87% of alumni earn more than their parents.


Over more than 20 years, College Track has grown from a cohort of 25 students in a single East Palo Alto center to a network of 10 College Track centers across California, Colorado, New Orleans, and the D.C. Metro Area that now serve more than 3,200 students. With a disciplined approach to growth, we have increased the number of students we serve and continuously improved the quality and impact of the services we provide. By 2020, College Track will empower more than 3,650 students as they pursue four-year college degrees and celebrate 750 alumni rising in the workforce as models to their families, friends, and communities.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Director of Development Operations will play the critical role ensuring College Track raises more than $40m annually by 2024. The Director of Development Operations will lead critical elements of our fundraising operational infrastructure and support a data driven approach to growing revenue. This role will lead the organization’s Salesforce, gift processing, data analytics strategy, and prospect research function, including directly managing a prospect researcher and Development Associate. Additionally, this role will lead our annual revenue forecasting process, serve as the main point of contact between the organization’s finance and organizational performance teams and lead the development and implementation of our development onboarding and off-boarding processes.


The Director of Development Operations’ responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Development team’s donor database strategy, ensuring the system is utilized across the Development team as a strategic tool to meet organizational goals
  • Lead the organization’s data and analytics strategy, supporting regional development teams with accurate and useful data to drive local fundraising strategies and tactics.
  • Lead our prospect research function, directly managing a prospect research manager and ensuring College Track implements a prospect rating system and build’s its capacity to identify qualified donor prospects.
  • Lead College Track’s Development onboarding and off-boarding strategy, working closely with hiring managers to ensure new hires experience a comprehensive onboarding experience.
  • Lead the organization’s strategy for Salesforce training for development staff.
  • Lead College Track’s development knowledge management strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Development and the Donor Stewardship Manager to create and execute a comprehensive donor stewardship strategy
  • Serve as the primary Point of Contact for collaboration with the Finance team
  • Serve as the primary Point of Contact for collaboration with the Organizational Performance team
  • Lead the logistics for rolling out strategic initiatives within the development team
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation exercises with the Finance team 
  • Develop and manage a gift processing system that meets donor needs and provides our Finance team with information necessary to meet accounting purposes.
  • Directly manage the Development Associate.
  • Export weekly reports of fiscal pipeline and save to Box Salesforce folder.


Skills & Experience Required

First and foremost, the Director of Development Operations must embrace College Track’s vision for transforming low-income communities into places where college readiness and college graduation are the norms. Additionally, candidates must posses the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in an nonprofit, school, or other entrepreneurial, high-performing organization
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Proven record of successful fundraising; experience designing and implementing comprehensive operational strategies that support fundraising from multiple revenue streams.
  • Superior relationship-building and interpersonal skills which enable rapport-building with internal and external stakeholders
  • Agility and the capability to think strategically while executing tactically within in a lean and resource- constrained environment
  • Demonstrated project management skills that enable the execution of complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Demonstrated experience with sophisticated database management and/or significant Salesforce skills - leveraging Salesforce as a primary tool in managing communication and driving strategic and tactical planning
  • Ability to analyze data in order to detect important trends that should inform strategic development
  • Superior organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail
  • A constant learner who is interested in being a proactive, positive member of the team
