Job Description


A California non-profit that organizes families, educators, and community towards stronger public schools seeks a Political Director to lead the work of ensuring voters elect leaders and pass ballot measures that will significantly move the dial on access to high-quality educational opportunities for students in the most historically underserved neighborhoods.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Political Director will serve as the leader of a coalition of grasstops and grassroots leaders across who are laser-focused on the unprecedented opportunity of the 2020 elections for students. They will own the work of preparing our team, our network, and the broader education and political ecosystem so that our communities elect competent, viable, and values-aligned leaders. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Candidate Recruitment and Support: In one-on-one and group settings, inspire high-potential prospects for elected leadership to consider running for office. Support them to do the work and create the necessary experiences to make the decision to run and then prepare themselves to be both strong candidates and strong future elected leaders for students.

  • Coalition Leadership: Maintain and grow relationships with grasstops and grassroots leaders across the city and bring them together to collectively take action towards our shared vision of excellent elected leadership for local students.

  • Ballot Measure Leadership: Lead work to weigh in on and support coalition efforts to raise needed revenue for local public schools via bonds, parcel taxes, and state ballot measures.

  • Endorsement Process: Manage a robust, community-driven endorsement process that results in deep and wide support for high-quality candidates.

  • Campaign Director: In 2020, take the leadership of managing the resources of our organization (staff, volunteers, consultants, communications channels, and financial resources) to run a world-class independent expenditure campaign that utilizes field, mail, and communications to support our endorsed candidates to win.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 10+ years of professional experience, including professional or significant volunteer experience with a political campaign
  • Experience in the Bay Area, and/or in the education advocacy sector, is preferred.
