Republic Indemnity is a subsidiary of Great American Insurance Group - we market workers' compensation insurance to a variety of clients primarily in California, as well as other states. This position will handle a wide range of responsibilities including preparation of STAT, GAAP, and regulatory basis financial reports and documents. Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Acts as a point of contact/liaison for IT accounting functions.


  • Performs duties related to monthly closing activities in coordination with corporate office, accounting department, IT department, other departments and accounting team members. Includes preparation of supporting documentation for SOX auditors, external auditors and examiners, verification of entries booked and associated analysis, validations, and reconciliations.
  • Performs core business duties related to the reinsurance system in coordination with other departments and co-workers.
  • Collects, compiles, and manages appropriate data elements to assist in the preparation of Annual Statement schedules, PeopleSoft (G/L) reports, Production System reports, and other internal supporting documents.
  • Prepares and maintains supporting schedules and reports for internal auditors, external auditors, and state examiners to ensure compliance with SOX, GAAP, and STAT requirements.
  • Initiates, modifies, documents, and coordinates with the IT department the implementation of accounting controls and workflow procedures related to the monthly closing, financial reporting, and reinsurance processes associated with the tasks above.
  • May lead the work of others (mentors, prioritizes, delegates and reviews assignments).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Field of Study: Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.

Experience: 8 or more years of related experience. Insurance accounting and/or Reinsurance accounting experience preferred. Ability to understand business workflows, to manipulate data elements, definitions, and associated data flows required.
