Job Description

Join National Heritage Academies (NHA) as an English Learner Specialist. This position will report directly to the Manager of EL and Reading Intervention and will be responsible for providing teachers with supplemental coaching, modeling, and professional development that deepens the staff's knowledge and skills, and provides them with improved research-based instructional strategies that can be implemented immediately in the classroom.

In this role, you will be a Service Center / remote employee based out of East Michigan and will travel around to support various MI schools. The NHA Service Center is where all the behind-the-scenes magic happens. Our 400 brilliant team members are brag-worthy. With a diverse group of departments like admissions, talent acquisition, facilities, legal services, and many more working together to provide top level back-office support. The Service Center is a place of bright colors, smiling faces, and opportunity. We like to gather for events such as the fall crocktoberfest cook-off, the sparkling holiday party full of fun and unexplainable excitement, and our annual 5K Service Center fun run.

Your Role

  • Collaborate with school leadership to observe, model lessons, and coach EL instruction in NHA schools
  • Provide supplementary professional development for EL and core content teachers
  • Research and promote best practices in assigned content areas
  • Support staff as they set professional goals as well as individual student goals which correspond with the school's improvement plan and formative assessment data
  • Maintain and enhance current projects


  • Bachelor's Degree in Education is required, Master's degree in TESOL or ESL endorsement preferred
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience
  • Experience presenting to adult learners
  • Ability to work independently
  • Extensive experience working in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Candidates must live in Michigan, preferably in East Michigan
  • Ability to travel as required - 60% of time, mostly in Michigan with occasional overnights
