Full-time Business Development Development and Fundraising Sales

Job Description

City Year Sacramento is seeking a Development Manager focused on frontline fundraising efforts to help the site reach its yearly private revenue goal of almost $1 million. Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Manager will steward current donors and cultivate and solicit new corporate and foundation donors. The Development Manager will also support the planning and execution of external City Year Sacramento fundraising events, as well as support the site as needed.

Ideal candidates will have prior fundraising and event planning experience, a passion for improving educational outcomes for children, an aptitude for relationship development, and confident communication skills. This position is ideal for someone who is entrepreneurial, detail-oriented, and a creative problem solver.

Responsibilities

Donor Stewardship/Management

  • Maintain a portfolio of current individual, corporate, and foundation donors
  • Create a stewardship calendar and implement specific activities throughout the year to thank, delight, and recognize current donors 
  • Support and create engagements aimed at inspiring and motivating current donors to renew and/or increase their level of giving
  • Lead collaborative corporate engagements with City Year Team Sponsors and act as liaison between corporate partners and program staff/the schools
  • Track and record clear and timely records of contacts, donor history, and notes from donor meetings, and assist in the maintenance of the site’s internal donor database (Salesforce)
  • Assist with report and proposal writing
  • Support and assist with fundraising campaigns and events, such as the annual Ripples of Hope Gala, Giving Tuesday, individual fundraising events, etc.

Donor Cultivation

  • Collaborate with the Development Director to identify new corporate and foundation prospects and secure new donations to meet quarterly and annual fundraising goals
  • Lead and/or assist with all steps in the donor cultivation process, including solicitation meetings with potential donors
  • Represent City Year Sacramento at events and engagements; attend networking opportunities to cultivate new donors
  • Support the efforts of City Year Sacramento’s Board of Directors in identifying and implementing fundraising strategies and brand awareness initiatives
  • Through school visits, individual meetings, events and other engagements, create opportunities to expose new donors to City Year’s program, strategy, and mission
  • Arrange logistics for school visits and work with school-based City Year teams to ensure AmeriCorps members and staff are prepared for visits from donors and donor prospects
  • Facilitate school visits with donors and donor prospects to showcase City Year’s program in action

Event Planning and Execution

  • Lead and manage creative and inspirational events that powerfully communicate City Years’ service, impact, and need for support
  • With the support of the Development Director, serve as the main event lead for major fundraising events, cultivation events, school visits, professional Learning & Development days with the Impact Department, and annual campaigns
  • Oversee all event logistics and internal planning meetings (event timelines, creating run-of-shows and Q2Q’s, venue scheduling, etc.)
  • Manage cross-departmental teams of City Year Sacramento staff and AmeriCorps members assisting with event planning and implementation
  • In partnership with the Development Director, draft scripts, guest memos/invitations, and speaker talking points 
  • Collaborate with City Year HQ staff on designing event collateral and create and distribute all e-invites, email communications to event guests and social media posts  
  • In partnership with Impact staff, coach and prepare City Year AmeriCorps members for their roles within events, such as delivering testimonials, presenting awards, and introducing guests, interacting with donors, etc.
  • Maintain database of event invites and RSVPs in partnership with Operations staff
  • Create and execute follow-up engagement plan for event attendees

Organization Initiatives and Site Support

  • Attend and support whole site events, including Opening Day, MLK Day, Red Nose Day, Annual Gala, Graduation, and other site-wide designated events.
  • Participate in cross-department collaboration groups aimed at achieving site-wide goals
  • Lead and support AmeriCorps members in their external-facing engagement, including practicing their “elevator pitch”, school team social media accounts, involvement in donor stewardship programs, etc.
  • Attend regional and national City Year calls, meetings, and conferences focused on professional development, best practice sharing, and developing/communicating City Year’s long-term impact strategy
  • Ability and willingness to step up and meaningfully support other departments and tasks, as appropriate
  • Interest in working with and helping to develop young adult professionals and youth

Qualifications

  • Approximately 3 years of relevant experience in fundraising and/or sales, with proven ability to deliver strong, measurable results
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with an ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of audiences
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently to achieve goals
  • Comfortability with meeting and networking with new people
  • Efficient time management skills with an ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects
  • Collaborative spirt with willingness to work cross-departmentally to achieve big picture goals
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, SharePoint, and InDesign a plus
