Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Finance and Accounting, is a member of SOIS' senior management team, and manages Shrub Oak's finance, accounting, and payroll functions, all to support SOIS' business strategy and growth. A proactive problem solver, with strong business acumen, he/she will work collaboratively with other members of the senior management team, all levels of staff and outside vendors to provide superior client service as the functional lead. SOIS will provide significant opportunities for growth and development, including leading a small yet growing team of professionals. Having access to confidential information, discretion and independent judgment is required. The position is located in NYC's Financial District and our Mohegan Lake, NY campus (upper Westchester, NY). Essential Functions - Primary Responsibilities of the Position Deep, significant experience proactively handling all aspects of SOIS' finances including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, bookkeeping, banking and account reconciliations, purchasing, benefits administration, financial reporting, audit management and cash management functions Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with the senior management team and all levels of staff to achieve financial and operational strategies with a superior customer service approach Interfaces and works closely with SOIS vendors to maintain our relationships, all in support of our business strategies Reports and monitors financial status and progress, and develops financial recommendations and potential action plans as needed Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations Performs other responsibilities as needed and required Experience and Qualifications BA/BS in finance, accounting or a related degree; MBA preferred. CPA required 5-7 years' experience as a financial analyst, accountant and/or or similar position(s) Strong business acumen; experience in a small or mid-size company with aggressive growth targets is preferred; start up experience is helpful Ability to critically analyze financial documents, design supporting policies, approaches and programs and make sound decisions and recommendations Ability to develop, lead and retain staff Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other disciplines, all levels of management and staff, outside vendors, clients and others; a team player with superior problem solving skills and judgment Proactive ability to quickly recognize issues/problems, and select an appropriate solution from among several, often quickly, given imminent and often, changing circumstances Superior communication skills, with an ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Superior interpersonal skills with an ability to develop and maintain strong client relations to a varied client base (i.e. owners, staff, direct reports, parents, visitors, vendors) Superior ability to translate and communicate complex financial, technical and accounting information to nonfinancial professionals in a readily understandable manner Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment, demonstrating a sense of urgency and effectively juggling demands and shifting priorities Lifelong learner with a growth mindset, who thrives on taking on new challenges, to learn, master and teach others Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of QuickBooks (enterprise level), Microsoft office and other software, together with the ability to become proficient with an internally created database. Physical Demands Workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; Work regularly requires sustained concentration. Sitting at a desk for extended periods. Walking through a large campus and building. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a 12-month position. Full time staff work a traditional 40-hour work week. However, the demanding nature of our profession will regularly require professional employees to work longer hours than regular hours of operation.
