About KIPP Bay Area Public Schools KIPP is a non-profit network of 224 college-preparatory public charter schools across the country educating early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. There are currently 15 KIPP schools across the Bay Area educating nearly 6,000 students in East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, San Jose, and Redwood City and supporting over 3,000 alumni around the country. Position Overview : This position is a full-time, 3-year grant-funded role that will require an individual with expertise from the special education, transition, partnerships, and data-management spheres. We are looking for someone who can build upon the strengths of our existing high school special education programs, and imagine new high school and transition possibilities for our students and families. This position would be on the KIPP Bay Area Public Schools Special Education Regional Team, and report to report to the Associate Director of Special Education. We are looking for someone who has the following soft skills and intangibles : Ability to build relationships and communicate across stakeholder groups Systems-thinker and capacity-builder Existing knowledge of highschool transition resources in the greater Bay Area Experience working with or using data to make decisions Deeply passionate about KIPP’s mission for students to lead choice-filled lives Roles and Responsibilities: SpEd Transition Coordinator : Ensure equitable and consistent high school and transition experiences Collaborate with school teams and regional departments to ensure students have access to a range of local transition programs including colleges, vocational programs, and other disability-specific government programs. Partnerships : Capacity-Building Liaison between Outside Organizations and Internal KIPP Teams Conduct multiple local and out-of-state site visits to spark imagination for existing possibilities, partnerships, and gather best practices. Build an internal database of outside organizations and galvanize subregional partnerships (i.e., education specialists) Lasting Impact : Training Materials & Institutional Knowledge Support the Special Education team to imagine and draft legally compliant regional policy to ensure flexible high school programming and transition options for students with disabilities. Data : Collection of SpEd Student HS and Transition Outcomes Collaborate regularly with Special Education and Operations Team to ensure schools have guidance for improved data-quality and consistent documentation of high school special education student outcomes Preferred Qualifications: 3-5+ years of experience in public education, social services/welfare agency, non-profit, or public policy sector Former high school teacher, special education teacher, social worker, or other relevant experience Demonstrated success supporting high school or undergraduate students from educationally underserved communities Experience in special education or connection to the disability community Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn special education laws and regulations, transition programs serving youth, and high school special education program design. Strong writing and communication skills, and the ability to create policy overviews, guidance documents, and instructions for a variety of stakeholders. Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PPT) and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Drive) Speaks Spanish and/or Vietnamese Some familiarity with data management platforms (i.e., Excel, Google Sheets, Airtable, Tableau) Salary & Benefits We are dedicated to you and your family's well-being!
