The incumbent will provide comprehensive, collaborative communication leadership and guide development that drives consistency in the external communications for M-DCPS. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES1. Supports the Chief Communications Officer in the operation of department, including personnel and budget.2. Ensures projects are within budget and on-time. Manages budgeted expenses.3. Supports key district initiatives by working with stakeholders to develop strategic external communications plans, strategies and tactics.4. Oversees the Citizen Information Center, which serves as the initial point of contact for many stakeholders and fulfills statutorily required functions such as ensuring that District meetings are appropriately posted and that public records requests are processed in compliance with the law.5. Manages development and distribution of press releases and media advisories in English, Spanish, and Haitian-Creole and the development of video content.6. Oversees news media relations activities at the District level, including communication with media to disseminate information, media interviews with key personnel and media statements.7. Develops Strategies to cultivate working relationships with local and national media, conducts interviews, monitors media coverage, and conducts periodic visits to media outlets and editorial boards.8. Manages communications outreach at community events, meetings, and educational activities.9. Oversees Spanish and Haitian-Creole Translation and Outreach Services functions, including supervising outreach to Spanish and Haitian-Creole speaking communities and coordinating radio appearances by District staff.10. Monitors and analyzes external communications tools and data.11. Compiles Office of Communications monthly report and calendar, detailing all activities conducted by each division in the bureau.12. Performs other duties related to the general administrative responsibilities of the position. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 1. Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Education, English, or related field. Master's preferred. 2. Minimum of five (5) years of communication work experience; leadership/management skills. 3. Working knowledge of trends and innovations in the area of marketing, communications, news media and public relations. 4. Strong project management experience in organizing, planning and executing large scale projects from conception through implementation. 5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
