The Special Events Manager, reporting to the Managing Director of Development (MDD), will contribute to City Year Washington, DC’s growth and impact by achieving the fundraising goals of three annual fundraising events. The Special Events Manager will accomplish this by working closely with the Director of People Operations and Events on event concept, design and execution and working strategically with the development team to utilize events as acquisition tools for new, annual funding. This role serves as the lead for all event-based relationship management and is responsible for securing financial commitments from sponsors and attendees and manages the post-event stewardship process of these donors. Event Fundraising Lead annual strategic planning process for CYDC’s three core annual fundraising events (Legal Breakfast, MLK Day, Gala), including fundraising goals, budget recommendations, volunteer goals and timelines. Identify, cultivate and lead event volunteer leadership, donors and sponsors by developing and implementing event-appropriate strategies and relationship cultivation activities for successful recruitment, acknowledgement and retention of volunteers and donors. Recruit, manage and steward volunteer committees for each event, developing relationships with these volunteer leaders and providing comprehensive support to achieve event fundraising goals. Identify and network with corporations and key donors to engage their support of CYDC’s fundraising events. Develop/modify marketing materials (brochures, recruitment, promotional flyers, and pledge forms) to promote events. Collaborate closely with Director of Individual Giving and Senior Manager of Corporate Foundation Giving to determine best strategy for using fundraising events to move new donors into the annual pipeline as well as to upgrade current donors and partners. Manage all donor and sponsor relationships that are strictly event based. Work closely with Director of People Operations and Events to oversee expense and fiscal controls to closely track each event’s progress toward budget goal. Evaluate the effectiveness of each event, including fundraising efficiency (cost/expense), donor engagement, event satisfaction, overall success of the events and suggest improvements. Event Logistics Work closely with Director of People Operations and Events to coordinate all logistical aspects of events. Work with CYDC leadership and development teams to conceptualize and coordinate all mission-related elements of events. Assist Director of People Operations and Events as an on-site manager during fundraising events, with a particular focus on donor and sponsor engagement and satisfaction. Organizational Initiatives & Site Support Engage in structured discussions and trainings on diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging aimed at developing stronger cultural competency, both individually and collectively as a site Partner with City Year Washington, DC departments and staff to ensure that site-wide goals are met, including, but not limited to, the AmeriCorps member applicant interview process, stakeholder engagement, event and service day participation, and cross-departmental committees Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or extensive City Year experience 3+ years in nonprofit fundraising and event-based fundraising A sincere commitment to CYDC’s mission Strong, independent worker with organizational and project management skills The ability to work well in a fast paced environment Ready and adept communicator in both casual and formal scenarios Innate interest in fundraising Possess accountability measures and interpersonal communication skills.
