Since 1979, The Skin Cancer Foundation (SCF) has set the standard for educating the public and the medical profession about the world's most common cancer. By empowering people to take a proactive approach to daily sun protection and the early detection and treatment of skin cancer, we save and improve lives. While the SCF is a nonprofit with a small, efficient team, we reach millions with our medically reviewed content in print and digital formats and our educational programs. We are seeking a talented science & education content manager in our midtown New York City office to write and edit articles, brochures and other content for print or digital to promote the importance of skin cancer prevention, early detection and treatment. Some content is complex and clinical for an audience of medical professionals; other content is simple and compelling for a public audience. Understanding the science behind both styles is key. The position reports to the senior director of science & education. A strong commitment to the SCF mission is essential. Responsibilities: · Develop creative concepts, research, write and edit material for SCF publications and programs. · Interview researchers, physicians and other experts, including recording and transcribing for accuracy. · Work with physician reviewers to assure rigorous accuracy of facts and references while maintaining readability and style for the intended audience. · Edit and proofread material for adherence to house style and approved SCF messaging and statistics. · Prioritize and manage multiple projects within design specifications, project scope and budget restrictions. · Ensure effective planning and management of timelines for all components of assigned documents. Candidate Requirements: · Bachelor's degree in related field required. · Two to four years of editorial experience, preferably with a medical or health focus. · Demonstrated excellence in communication and writing skills (published clips required). · Excellent grammatical and spelling skills; knowledge of stylebooks such as AMA and AP and a keen eye for consistency and correctness are helpful. · Commitment to excellence and high standards, with acute attention to detail. · Strong project planning and organization skills, with an outcome-driven focus. · Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. · Team player who is creative, collaborative, flexible and innovative. · Ability to manage priorities and workflow in a fast-paced environment. · Experience with image research and working with photos, illustrations, charts and graphs a plus. · Strong Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills required. Experience with content management systems and Adobe software helpful. · Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of the Foundation required. Competencies: Writing and editing: Write clear, useful and compelling content appropriate for each assignment, medium and target audience; interview experts and weave quotations seamlessly into text; understand and incorporate the basics of SEO and display type to attract readers; suggest art and image concepts; edit work for consistency, clarity, thoroughness, spelling, grammar and house style. Analytical skills: Learn quickly; collect the latest research and translate complex clinical information to fit the assignment's objective; understand how to interpret data; conform to work flows and procedures. Project management: Develop project plans; coordinate projects; communicate changes and progress; complete projects on time and within budget. Quality management: Look for ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness as well as creativity and fresh approaches to material.
