Job-Specific Responsibilities Opportunity Insights seeks to improve upward economic mobility through conducting cutting-edge research utilizing big data and working with policymakers to craft and implement effective policy solutions. Supporting the Opportunity Insights Institute within the Department of Economics and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Pre-Doc Program Manager coordinates and manages the pre-doctoral research program of 20 pre-doctoral research fellows. This position will work closely with the Directors and COO to run the pre-doctoral fellow program and support pre-doctoral fellows in their research and professional development but does not specifically perform research. Responsibilities include: Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Program Management Run recruitment and hiring process for approximately 10 pre-doctoral fellows annually; plan and run annual orientation and onboarding for new fellows. Coordinate collaborations between pre-doctoral fellows and policy team on projects, allocating policy work based on bandwidth. Identify opportunities for pre-doctoral fellow's professional development, and coordinate programming (including internal and external seminars, resources at Harvard and the in the Cambridge area). Manage coordination of researcher-focused programming at OI, including seminars, visiting researchers, weekly lab meetings, and talks from outside researchers/ Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for fellows and researchers of diverse backgrounds, and lead OI's engagement with diversity and inclusion efforts in the field of Economics. Support PIs in balancing projects across fellows and in allocating tasks equitably across the fellows; provide intensive task allocation and management support to PIs in periods leading up to paper releases as needed. Pre-Doctoral Fellow Support and Management Mentor individual fellows, supporting them with balancing their workload, prioritization, and task management as needed. Work with each fellow to develop a professional development plan, track progress throughout the course of their fellowship, and coordinate feedback from PIs. Act as point person for human resources-related requests for pre-doctoral fellows, including vacation/time-off, accommodation requests, and other support as needed. Support pre-doctoral fellows in the graduate school application process. Research Project Management and Administration Develop research project management process and systems, including for starting up new projects, managing ongoing work, preparing for paper release, and closing out projects after completion. Maintain calendar of milestones across research projects and communicate them across the organization to coordinate policy, communications, and operations resources as needed. Develop data security protocols across research and policy teamwork, including data storage, access, and management; work in close partnership with faculty and collaborators to ensure data protocols and University policies are adhered to. Assist in coordinating data acquisitions from various public and private organizations; manage memorandums of understanding and nondisclosure agreements. Coordinate and manage the development and submission of data use agreements and IRB protocols for ongoing research efforts. Maintain IRB and DUA documentation for the organization, and identify needed updates for PIs. Interact with Office of Sponsored Projects and Internal Review Boards as needed to ensure compliance with all data protocols and University policies. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree 5+ years experience Experience supervising and managing staff Additional Qualifications Masters degree in economics, statistics, data science, or public policy strongly preferred. Strong background in project management, ideally in a research setting. Specific job skills: Ability to effectively manage and coordinate projects and teams Excellent analytic, organization and problem-solving skills Strong analytical, management, leadership, communications, writing, and presentation skills.
