Position Title: PRINCIPAL | JPS MONTESSORI [ELEMENTARY SCHOOL] Department: Administration Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Curriculum and Federal Programs Unit: Jackson Public Schools Administrators Association Purpose Statement : The Elementary Principal serves under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Curriculum and Federal Programs and is ultimately responsible for the instructional leadership of the building, including but not limited to: customer service, administering curriculum, management of all staff and student learning, activities, conduct and safety . Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Interpret Board Policy as it relates to instructional programs, management of all staff and student learning, activities, staff and student conduct and safety. Oversee non-instructional and instructional staff assigned to the building including substitutes, and student teachers. Responsible for all student education and activities in the classroom. Annually evaluate all staff members. Classify and promote all students. Budget development for all building line items involving allocated State and Federal Funds; responsible for the purchase and distribution of building instructional resources identified in the budget. Implement instructional programs of all general education including special education and pilot programs. Coordinate and provide in-service/professional development education for all classroom teachers. Establish master schedule as it relates to assignments of teachers, paraprofessionals, and teaching assistants. Supervise student conduct outside the classroom i.e. monitor cafeteria and recess of students; including attendance and student transfers. Partner with Central Administration in the management of all employee requests including, but not limited to: leaves, conferences, overtime, and spending. Assist in the coordination of support services including special education, instructional specialist, mentors, State and Federal Services, School Social Work Services, and traveling teachers providing services for students in the building. Maintain student records at the building level. Coordinate all school-related student services such as field trips and after-school programs in accordance with Board Policy. Serve as a referral agent and liaison person for all outside agencies providing support services to students. All other duties as assigned. Qualification Requirements : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be qualified to perform essential duties. Valid Michigan Administrator Certificate, required Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, required Demonstrated ability to work with the entire school community, required Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and instruction at the elementary level, required Excellent written and verbal communication skills, required Montessori Certification or documented training, highly preferred Labor relations experience, preferred Elementary school building administrative experience, preferred Desired Attributes: Trustworthy and honest Demonstrates initiative, productivity, emotional stability, energy, and enthusiasm Positive and enthusiastic attitude Strong problem solving and decision-making skills Exhibit the emotional intelligence/stability necessary for meeting the responsibilities of the position Demonstrated ability to lead others in pursuit of educational excellence Strong educational leadership skills Effective mediation skills Ability to accept and apply constructive feedback Demonstrates efforts to improve self via workshops, graduate studies, conferences, and active participation in school affairs Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
