Summary of Position: The Academic Director of Online Learning develops and facilitates the delivery of high impact online learning for CIEE. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Academic Director will design online learning experiences that enrich our study abroad programs, complement face-to-face educational activities, and align with the CIEE Philosophy on Teaching & Learning. The Academic Director will also measure and report out on online learning outcomes; develop and provide training and support for CIEE on-site staff and instructors; and collaborate with teams across CIEE to achieve our organization's strategic goals. Primary Responsibilities: Student Learning Align all LMS-delivered online learning activities with CIEE Philosophy on Teaching & Learning, Global Learning Objectives, and program-level learning objectives Align CIEE courses with sending school requirements for hybrid (online/in-person) or fully online content, as applicable Support LMS / digital educational content such as CIEE courses, pre-departure online orientation, and co-curricular online learning Adapt existing instructional materials developed for face-to-face delivery to hybrid or fully online formats Measure student learning outcomes using mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative metrics) Staff Training and Assistance Update, expand, and enhance the suite of online / in-person training for CIEE onsite staff and instructors about digital pedagogy and instructional design in order to maximize student learning via LMS-enhanced courses, pre-departure online orientations, and co-curricular online activities Identify a cohort of CIEE on-site staff to mentor and develop their capacity as online learning resources for their regions Respond to requests for educational technology and LMS-related assistance from CIEE staff and instructors Measure the quality of LMS adoption using mixed methods (qualitiative and quantitative metrics) Lead CIEE's LMS administrator user group Research Identify high-impact and emerging online learning tools suitable for education abroad and integrate these into CIEE programs Design and implement research projects on online learning and education abroad Identify and network with experts in online learning and education abroad Reinforce CIEE's standing as a leader in online global education by presenting at relevant conferences and by publishing in relevant publications Investigate pathways and possibilities for future online learning initiatives Collaboration Serve as primary point of contact between CIEE and LMS vendor Serve as primary point of contact between CIEE's IT department and Study Abroad to coordinate efforts between these units Develop resources and deliver training to Global Enrollment Management teams on the "CIEE Difference" with regards to online learning Collaborate with Global Operations; Health, Safety, and Security; Human Resources, and other CIEE departments to leverage LMS-based training for international and U.S. staff Collaborate with Academic Affairs team to enhance student learning, assessment, and on-site academic staff and instructor training Consult with other CIEE departments and units (e.g., Strategy & New Business, High School Outbound, Teach Abroad, TEFL) as requested to provide assistance on online learning projects Other duties as assigned Knowledge & Skill Requirements: Master's degree in instructional design and technology, online learning, elearning, digital pedagogy, or related field (required); Ph.D. in instructional design and technology, online learning, e-learning, digital pedagogy, or related field (preferred) Minimum 3 years of experience in design and delivery of online learning, elearning, distance education, or online training (required) Experience with LMS administration (required); experience with Canvas LMS and Bridge LMS (highly preferred) Proven ability to lead a team through complexities and challenges associated with online learning and assessment (required) Knowledge of and experience using high-impact educational technology tools (required) Knowledge of and experience with U.S. universities (required) and secondary schools (preferred) Ability to resolve complex issues in an intercultural work environment (required) Ability to manage projects to ensure successful delivery on time and within budget in order to achieve clearly stated goals (required) Excellent written and oral communication skills (required) Knowledge of and interest in international education (preferred) Work or academic experience in another culture (preferred) Fluency in English (required); proficiency in a second language (preferred) Due to federal regulations a background check will be conducted as a condition of employment.
