City Year New York is seeking an experienced educator to join the Impact team and provide vital training, coaching, and support to AmeriCorps Members serving as tutors and mentors in underserved public elementary and middle schools. The Instructional Coach spends their time on the ground, in schools observing AmeriCorps Members, providing real time coaching and collecting trends of best practices and potential gap areas to inform training and innovation. As part of the Service team, the Instructional Coach works with their peers to develop and deliver training content for AmeriCorps Members at the start of and throughout the year. This role is a great opportunity for educators with classroom experience looking to expand their reach by supporting teams of AmeriCorps Members that are changing the educational trajectory and the lives of hundreds of students. What You’ll Do Here Develop and Deliver Training Content: Facilitate trainings for AmeriCorps Members to prepare them for their roles as English Language Arts and math tutors, after school instructors, and attendance and social emotional coaches. Create and adjust content for trainings based on observations of tutoring, learning styles of audience, and specific needs of schools Observe and Coach AmeriCorps Members: Work with peers to conduct co-observations of AmeriCorps Members during tutoring and after-school instruction Provide feedback to individual AmeriCorps Members and teams to enhance quality of service and spread best practices. Collaborate with peer managers to identify trends, review progress, and create plans for continued improvement based on observations. Use Data To Improve Instruction and Service Model: Create assessment reports based on qualitative and quantitative data to show progress towards goals, areas for improvement, and training needs. Support AmeriCorps Members and peer managers in analyzing student and school level data and building plans to support students and instruction. Utilize content matter or pedagogical expertise to support peer managers in meetings with teachers and school administration. What You’ve Already Done Completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field. Taught in an middle school for 2+ years. Served as a grade team leader, instructional coach, or similar position of peer leadership or direct management for 1+ years. Mastered an understanding of general curriculum and standards-based assessments. Demonstrated success in differentiating instruction and improving student achievement. Studied and/or implemented Common Core standards. Perfected the art of using Microsoft Excel. Bonus If You Have Completed a Master’s Degree. Served at City Year, Teach for America, or another AmeriCorps program. Have experience or an interest in student learning and instruction in after-school programs.
