Vice President, People Operations Featured
The Vice President, People Operations, leads the team responsible for some of City Year’s core People functions, including compensation, benefits, HR systems and background checks. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the VP, People Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth administration of these critical functions that impact the everyday lives of City Year’s people; but more importantly leads efforts to evolve City Year’s policies and practices to more closely align with City Year’s values and support the organization’s long-term strategies. The ideal candidate is someone who deeply believes that supporting people is the best way to achieve great organizational outcomes. The VP, People Operations manages a team of six professionals and is a member of the People Leadership Team. Responsibilities Team leadership · Manage a team of six HR professionals and continuously align team practices to support the vision of the People Team · Ensure all team members understand their role in supporting the People Team vision and the success of City Year’s people · Promote engagement and professional growth for all team members Organizational leadership · Ensure that the team’s policies and practices align with City Year’s values and support its long-term mission · Stay plugged-in to significant organizational changes and ensure that the team is prepared to respond appropriately · Provide support for major organizational restructuring efforts · Participate in cross-departmental initiatives as needed Compensation & Benefits · Align City Year’s total rewards practices to support the organization’s values and goals · Ensure smooth administration of the annual merit and bonus processes · Lead the redesign of City Year’s base salary and bonus policies and practices to align with organizational objectives · Enhance communication around City Year’s total rewards practices to promote transparency and equity · Support the team in the smooth administration of City Year’s benefits programs, including the annual open enrollment process · Ensure that City Year’s approach to total rewards continues to support the recruitment and retention of great talent · Partner with Finance to ensure the smooth execution of City Year’s compensation and benefits practices HR Systems · Support the team to align our HRIS (currently Workday) to support our business processes and business outcomes · Ensure the team has adequate support and resources to administer the HRIS as well as support end users to use the HRIS in all critical functions, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, comp & benefits, staffing transactions, etc. Background Checks · Support the team to successfully administer background checks to City Year’s staff and 3,000 AmeriCorps members annually · Ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant AmeriCorps and state commission requirements around background checks Qualifications · 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in human resources, ideally in senior-level roles · Prior experience managing core HR functions (compensation, benefits, HRIS) highly desirable · Strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; track record of centering equity in decision-making around policy and practices · Demonstrated commitment to mission-driven work, especially work in support of people of marginalized identities · Strong analytical skills · Prior experience with HRIS systems, especially Workday, preferred; demonstrated ability to leverage and learn technology systems required · Demonstrated facility with leveraging technology to support HR processes · Experience working in diverse organizations of national scope preferred · Able to travel occasionally for team retreats and other meetings (2-5 times per year) Compensation and Benefits Full time employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with experience.
