Position Overview: KIPP Nashville seeks a driven, collaborative and forward-thinking Accountant to ensure strong financial practices for our schools. By executing organization-wide accounting and reporting for the region and driving internal controls, the Accountant will promote the overall fiscal health of KIPP Nashville. The Accountant will work alongside our Controller, Director of Planning and Budgeting, and CFO, and will build strong relationships with school-based Directors of Operations (DOOs). Responsibilities of the Accountant include, but are not limited to: Financial Reporting and Compliance Perform month-end accounting close activities including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and other reporting schedules and data analysis Manage weekly cash receipts and monthly receivable entries Assist with year-end closing and audit requests Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and variances by school/department Collaborate with the Controller and Director of Planning and Budgeting to support teams in managing fiscal budgets and analyzing variances Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure timely month end close, compliance with state and federal regulations and appropriate reporting to stakeholders Accounts Payable Management Oversee accounts payable: Collaborate with school-level operations teams and vendors to ensure accurate and timely bill payment and credit card reconciliation Assist with preparation of year-end Form 1099s Answer and resolve vendor account inquiries and reconciliations Pledges/Grants Receivable Management Oversee pledges receivable: Collaborate with the Development Team to ensure accurate and complete processing of donations; manage and provide oversight for revenue collections at schools Oversee grants receivable: Prepare CSP, Title I & II, and IDEA budgets annually and reimbursement requests monthly/quarterly Ensure proper allocation and expenditure of all federal and private grants, providing guidance to teams where needed Desired Characteristics Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field CPA or current eligibility to sit for the CPA exam 1 to 3 years related experience with proven accounting and Excel skills Experience working with computerized financial accounting system, preferably Intacct Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Nashville's mission Results orientation with excellent follow-through Excellent communication skills with diverse constituents; clear writer and facilitator Superb personal organization skills and acute attention to detail Team player: demonstrates maturity, growth mindset, flexibility, strong work ethic, ability to build relationships across multiple audiences and sense of humor Willingness to offer and respond positively to feedback Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, autonomous, entrepreneurial environment Compensation: Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits.
