The Learning and Coaching Specialist reports directly to the Director of Learning and Development (L&D). In collaboration with other site members, a Learning and Coaching Specialist ensures through learning content development, facilitation, and coaching that our site’s Staff and AmeriCorps Members (ACMs) are prepared to apply and grow in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to track towards City Year San José/Silicon Valley’s vision, mission, and yearly goals. For site-based staff, a Learning and Coaching Specialist leverages their instructional design skills to create formal learning programs differentiated based on time on staff, department, and/or site-wide specific needs. Specifically, for the field-based Impact Department, a Learning and Coaching Specialist provides the foundational resources and formal training to support the delivery of high-quality services that ultimately increase student achievement. The Learning and Coaching Specialist leverages their educational background and influential leadership to develop the coaching skills of full-time Impact Managers and second year AmeriCorps Team Leaders, as well as improve the implementation skills of ACMs serving across 14 elementary, middle and high schools in East San José. A Learning and Coaching Specialist continually assesses training and service quality through use of both quantitative and qualitative measures. From this data, a Learning and Coaching Specialist provides insights, identifies responsive resources and training content, and refines their own work. The Learning and Coaching Specialist’s responsibilities will be split between field-based and office-based work. Responsibilities Field Service Impact & Evaluation Perform on-site coaching to Impact Managers and Team Leaders around development of coaching skills. Work collaboratively with Analytics Department in assessing impact in ACM growth and coaching. Work collaboratively with Impact Directors to ensure progress against goals leveraging data analysis and effective coaching. Staff and AmeriCorps Member Learning and Development Continue to refine coaching model to ensure instructional excellence. Share instructional best practices with Impact staff around service excellence and impact. Execute high-quality, relevant learning content for ACMs and staff ensuring alignment to learning calendar while remaining responsive to needs and service priorities. By request, support the development of school team/department based trainings and resources. Work collaboratively across departments, City Year sites, and external facilitators to ensure high relevance and effectiveness of learning. Impact Department Development and Design Assist Director of L&D in developing/refining formal learning programs, which includes but is not limited to content and resource development, in response to data trends and observed needs. Utilize data analysis and research to improve own work and to leverage in the development, innovation and enhancement of the site’s learning strategy. Engage in assigned partnerships within City Year and external that may advance our sites service model. * Other special projects and administrative tasks, as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required with a focus in Education or related field strongly preferred. Adult training content development and delivery experience. Teaching, educational instruction, and/or instructional coaching experience. Experience at Middle School or High School a plus. Experience with English Language Learners and/or Special Education a plus. Demonstrated success in differentiating instruction and improving student achievement Holds self accountable, sets high expectations for self and others, and works with and supports others (doing and modeling) to mobilize and motivate. Skill in conveying thoughts and ideas clearly, actively listens, communicates in a solution-oriented manner, and incorporates others’ views into work. Ability to establish and build diverse, mutually beneficial, and sustainable partnerships within and without City Year, balancing delivery of results with relationship building. Strategically directs critical relationships to advance City Year’s mission, while removing obstacles for City Year AmeriCorps and staff members.
