JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Education and Professional Relations Manager (MEPRM) is responsible for developing and implementing strategic professional communication and education plans for the organization and ensuring key messaging is consistently communicated and kept updated. The MEPRM works cross-functionally with other members of the Academy, marketing, product management, sales, applications, and service to implement various educational and marketing initiatives. The MEPRM will work collaboratively with the HQ Academy, technical writing, marketing, regulatory, R&D, and product management teams in Heidelberg. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Prepare, monitor and track annual congress calendar and abstract submission deadlines to ensure all opportunities for products and research exposure are maximized in the US. • Coordinate and support development of MD and OD presentations, posters and videos for local, national, regional and international conferences. • Organize and maintain congress poster/paper/course information and materials for all congresses where the company's products are represented. • Ensure KOLs, trade media publication, podium presentations, corporate educational events and the field team are on message and consistent. o Work cross-functionally on development and approval of communication and educational materials. o Interface with KOLs and key customers to support local and regional presentations on company related topics. o Develop, implement and assess effectiveness of educational programming and publications (i.e. Operator Courses, symposia, courses, booth speaker forum, supplements, e-newsletter campaigns, etc.) o Work cross-functionally to oversee event logistics, onsite material coordinate/ development, and support onsite execution of events. o Stays abreast of changes in the marketing environment to best serve the objectives of the organization and adjusts plans accordingly. • Develop, deploy and analyze customer surveys • Create and oversee deployment of promotional plan for educational and training activities associated major trade shows • Work with department head and product managers on development and distribution of critical customer communications (i.e. Advisory Board documents, technical documents, product announcements, etc.) • Create/coordinate, review and revise educational content/material as needed to promote all products and services to clinicians, patients and healthcare providers • Manage relevant vendor relationships. • Measure and report the success of educational and marketing programs. • Support US product manager(s) to launch and grow the market share of all products. • Support the sales organization by providing effective educational tools. • Maintain strong customer business relations and interact closely with customers, business partners and cross-functional company teams. • Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED: • Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing or Life Sciences; advanced degree desirable. • 10 years' experience in medical device capital equipment Ophthalmic marketing/educational experience is preferred. Proven track record of developing a good understanding of clinical applications and benefits of medical devices. • Must have the ability to think strategically and creatively, while at the same time developing practical and specific tactics that support commercial growth. • Excellent technical writing and editing skills. • A proven ability to develop and execute practical, results-oriented key option leader programs and educational plans. • Good analytical skills and ability to manage and work cross-functionally. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • While performing the duties the employee is: o constantly required to reach to use computers and other office equipment o constantly required to view objects at close and distant ranges o constantly required to communicate with others o frequently required to sit and stand • This position functions in an office and technical environment and requires fine manipulation and simple grasping in order to utilize the computer and other standard office equipment such as telephone, fax machines, copiers, etc. • Required occasional lifting and transporting of items weighing up to 30 lbs. • This position may require occasional travel to meetings and tradeshows. • Equipment typically used: Computers, Heidelberg devices, USB devices, MO disks/drives TRAVEL: Approximately 10 to 20% travel. Note: For the purpose of this summary, occasionally is used to represent up to 1/3 of the time given to the work day, frequently represents 1/3 to 2/3 of the time and constantly represents 2/3 or more of the time.
