Manager, Math Coach Development Featured
The Manager, Math Coach Development is responsible for the preparation, development, and evaluation of NMSI’s national coach corps. NMSI is seeking successful teachers and instructional leaders who have instructional coaching, teacher leadership, or school leadership backgrounds, to support NMSI part time coaches who deliver NMSI K-12 programming, including the College Readiness Program, the Laying the Foundation program, or other customized district supports. Managers of Coach Development will model effective instructional practices, adult facilitation skills, and data-to-action planning. The Manager of Math Coach Development has a deep understanding of math pedagogical content knowledge across grade levels, especially as it applies to delivering rigorous content with the ultimate goal of preparing students for the complex content in AP and college-readiness classrooms. Managers model a commitment to equity and access to advanced academic coursework for all students. The Manager should embody NMSI’s mission to create a strong, diverse, and effective national coach corps who support teacher development, and help all students, especially those furthest from opportunity, thrive and reach their fullest potential. What You’ll Do The Manager, Math Coach Development will support NMSI Coaches in order to deliver NMSI’s vision of providing world class K-12 STEM solutions for our school, district, and network partners. Coach Development Managers develop the knowledge and skill set of NMSI Coaches to facilitate blended teacher professional development supports (online and in-person), focusing on the development of teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge, instructional planning, data analysis skills, and understanding of AP frameworks and assessment practices. What are the details? Ensure the effective integration and implementation of NMSI training and resources at NMSI training events through coaching and modeling to a regional corps of coaches, as well as math content support for math coaches across the country Deliver train-the-coach experiences by modeling best practices in adult facilitation, practice-based instruction, and culturally responsive teaching methods Support the Regional Coaches’ ability to help teachers identify student misconceptions, skill gaps, and learning needs to strengthen student performance in PreK-12th, pre-AP, and AP coursework Observe and provide feedback to NMSI Coaches as they facilitate teacher trainings and other customized trainings that support NMSI’s K-12 professional development solutions for districts and school partners Analyze coach observation data to inform train-the-coach design, codifying Math coach development strategy, therefore identifying the needs across NMSI identified regions; e valuate the quality and effectiveness of coaches Develop coaches to facilitate events through a lens of broadening access and equity in education, leveraging culturally responsive teaching approaches Collaborate with other Coach Development Managers to create and maintain a NMSI Coach Playbook by cultivating exemplars of strong training that is aligned to NMSI’s High Impact Training Practices, including but not limited to videos, case studies, artifacts, etc Provide critical review, feedback, and input in the development of teacher and student-facing content Support coach cultivation and recruitment in an identified region Other duties as assigned What You Bring We are looking for an incredible instructional coach and leader who has a diverse background and experience, is inspired by our mission, and is highly motivated to support teacher and student learning. NMSI Managers of Coach Development are experienced instructional coaches of teachers who demonstrate a track record of success working with students in high-need schools, hold high expectations for students and teachers, and have strong organizational and communication skills. What are we looking for? Education & Experience – You have a Bachelor’s degree in a mathematics field or in a related discipline, with at least 5 years of teaching experience along with 3+ years of proven experience designing educative curricula for K-8 or 9-12 teachers at the district/network/national level; Algebra and math-related AP course experience a plus Learning & Development Guru – You have a deep understanding of student learning and skill progressions in Mathematics as well as expert knowledge in teacher development and adult learning strategies Organized & Productive – You are a master at project planning and managing multiple priorities. You don’t let distractions prevent you from meeting goals Expert Communicator – You can tailor your communication to multiple types of audiences; you are a concise, compelling instructional coach of teachers and students Data Geek – You love data, especially how it relates to teacher professional development and learning; you can recognize trends and correlations better than most people and you use data to drive decisions Tech Savvy – You can design teacher professional development or curricular resources in a variety of modes and platforms, with evidence of success designing and delivering trainings online and in person Growth Mindset – You learn from failure and crave feedback because you know that it makes you better; you are also eager to give feedback to your manager, team, and colleagues; you believe in the partnership approach to supporting students and teachers on their learning journey; you believe in the power of collaboration Reliable – You can work effectively with minimal supervision, but you also know when to ask for help Flexible – You are comfortable working in an ambiguous environment with competing priorities Inclusive – You can work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion or job type—or any other factor that makes us unique!
