At Rocketship Public Schools, we are unleashing potential. A Bus Monitor is someone who, in partnership with the bus driver, assumes responsibility for the safety of children on a school bus. Bus Monitors members will work under the direction and supervision of the school site Business Operations Manager. Responsibilities Assists the bus driver with the safety, movement, management and care of the children boarding the school bus, leaving the bus or being transported Seats self in an area on the bus to ensure observation of all passengers at all times and make sure they are following school bus safety rules Assists the school bus driver in reporting infractions of school bus safety Manages attendance, and updates seating chart regularly. Is aware of problems between students and keeping those students separated by updating assigned seats When working on a school bus equipped with a wheelchair lift, operates the lift for loading and unloading of wheelchairs and also ensures that that the wheelchair is properly secured on the school bus Is responsible for securing students who ride in child restraint seats, etc. Attends school bus safety meetings Assists bus driver with pre-trip and post-trip inspections Maintains a high standard of student conduct at all times Assists driver in keeping the bus clean and inspect for damages and repairs on a daily basis Ensures that a child takes his/her belongings with him/her when departing the bus Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor Requirements Commitment to Rocketship's mission, vision, and goals Passion for working with children Previous experience managing and/or teaching groups of elementary-age students is strongly preferred Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to engage and work closely with a wide range of staff members Ability to learn laws, rules, practices and procedures related to public education and specific to Rocketship Flexibility and a willingness to learn Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
