Description The Nebraska Department of Education is looking for a professional, customer-service oriented Executive Assistant to provide confidential, high-level support to the Nebraska Commissioner of Education. The selected candidate's skills, abilities, education, and experience will determine the salary offer within this posted range. Examples of Work Serves as main point of contact for the Commissioner and facilitates daily operations of the office including responding to inquiries, preparing meeting spaces, and receiving visitors. Manages calendar and arranges for representation at meetings and events. Coordinates with the State Board Relations Officer to ensure effective office operations and scheduling. Coordinates travel logistics and assists with planning, preparation, and facilitation of meetings, activities, and special events of the Commissioner's Office and State Board of Education. Prepares State Board of Education meeting documents and records, maintains proceedings, and official record of work sessions and meetings. Provides written and verbal interpretations of policies, procedures, and directives of the Commissioner's Office to staff, other governmental entities (e.g. the Legislature and Governor's Office), and the public. Provides input regarding operational issues, recommending solutions (e.g. procedural changes, form revision, shifts in work distribution), and monitors effectiveness. Creates correspondence, summaries, and other mailings for public information. Performs administrative duties and accounting work including preparing, maintaining, and processing financial records and documents, accounts receivable and payable in the State of Nebraska accounting system. Possesses a valid driver's license, travels independently, and works in a variety of settings. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains the office in absence of professional staff. Extent of Public Contact: This position requires extensive contact with education partners (including State Board of Education members, school administrators and other educators, and local school board members), the Legislature, the Governor's office, other NDE and outside agency staff, and the public. Working Conditions and Travel: This position requires approximately 90% of work time spent in an office environment and the remaining 10% spent traveling and working in sites such as schools, educational service units, conferences, and other agencies. Qualifications/Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in related field (e.g. business, business communication, office professional programs) and five years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position. Preferred Qualifications: Postsecondary education related to business, business communication, office professional programs, etc. Knowledge of PreK-12 education and experience supporting a business executive or agency leader. Maintain professionalism, work independently, and effectively handle situations. Understand and apply instructions and administrative policies and guidelines. Locate and summarize information from files and documents. Communicate orally and in writing with agency staff and the public. Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
