Comstock Park is seeking candidates who display a strong desire and ability to make an impact on students and the greater community both within and outside of the classroom.

SUMMARY:

To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

The Stoney Creek and Pine Island Elementary Schools Art Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach knowledge and skills associated with all aspects of K-5 Art
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures associated with all aspects of K-5 Art education
  • Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
  • Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, crafting, etc.
  • Understand a variety of art fundamentals, different approaches and techniques in art
  • Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
  • Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
  • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
  • Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
  • Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the school and the community
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
  • Communicate with parents and school staff on pupil progress
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after school staff meetings
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor of Arts degree (LX, LQ, LZ)
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.

COMPENSATION: In accordance with the master agreement between Comstock Park Educational Employees Association and the Comstock Park Board of Education.

The final candidate for this position will be required (at their cost) to furnish the district with a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records LiveScan check prior to our recommendation to hire.
