Job Description

Position Overview

The Office of Governance (OG) at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) proactively supports school systems, keeps students safe, and upholds Texas education law with integrity, objectivity, and excellence. Through two core workstreams¿Field Support and Compliance & Investigations¿we partner with local education agencies (LEAs) to promote best practices. By working collaboratively across the agency and engaging directly in the field, we help ensure every Texas public school student has access to a safe and high-quality education.

The Self-Reported Data Unit (SRDU) within the Compliance and Investigations Department supports TEA¿s efforts to improve outcomes for students by promoting accurate data reporting, effective implementation of educational programs, and compliance with state and federal requirements. SRDU uses data analysis, compliance reviews, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement practices to identify potential concerns, strengthen local systems, and inform agency decision-making.

The Ad-Hoc Project Supervisor serves as both a compliance analyst and workstream leader for projects related to self-reported data and agency strategic initiatives. This role requires balancing project leadership, individual contribution, and people leadership responsibilities while exercising sound judgment to evaluate information, identify potential risks or implementation challenges, and develop recommendations that support effective program administration and improved educational outcomes.

The supervisor plans, coordinates, and oversees multiple complex projects while also independently leading complex reviews involving self-reported data. The role requires extensive writing, editing, and quality review of reports and other deliverables. The supervisor also collaborates with agency leadership, program area staff, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to address emerging issues, interpret policy and regulatory requirements, communicate complex information, and help shape guidance that supports continuous improvement across Texas public schools.

This position reports directly to the SRDU Director and works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for independent judgment, and provides direct supervision, coaching, professional development, and support to assigned staff.

Please note that a resume and cover letter are required attachments for applying to this position. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants who are strongly being considered for employment must submit to a national criminal history background check.

Flexible work location in Texas may be considered for qualified candidates.
