The Calculus Project strives to launch students who are historically absent from high-level mathematics classes (typically Black and Latino students and those from low-income families) on a trajectory toward success in higher-level mathematics. The cornerstone of the Calculus Project are intensive Summer Mathematics Preview courses from Pre-Algebra (grade 7) to Calculus (Grade 12). Academically, these experiences are designed to prepare students for the math courses they will take in the following fall. The experience also addresses social-psychological barriers to success that may exist for Black and Latino students in traditional educational environments. High School Peer Mentors and High School Administrative Mentees are a vital part of the Calculus Project instructional team.
