Director of MTSS & SEL Integration

SUMMARY

The Pawtucket School Department is seeking a Director of MTSS & SEL Integration. This position provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) across schools. The Director works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, students, and families to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth for all students.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of culturally responsive practices, data-driven decision making, and effective instructional and behavioral supports. They will be committed to strengthening community engagement and supporting district-wide improvement efforts.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of a comprehensive MTSS and SEL framework aligned with district and school improvement goals.
  • Provide professional development for principals, teachers, and paraprofessionals in SEL, RTI, PBIS, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of student data (academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional) to guide interventions and measure program effectiveness.
  • Partner with school leadership teams to improve classroom instruction, classroom management, and student engagement.
  • Implement and monitor tiered interventions to address behavioral, social-emotional, and academic needs.
  • Support administrators and staff through consultation, coaching, and modeling strategies for effective instruction and classroom management.
  • Lead school-based MTSS and SEL teams; serve as a member of the School Improvement Team.
  • Promote family and community engagement to support student success.
  • Provide guidance and support to administrators and staff regarding student mental health, behavior, and emotional well-being.
  • Facilitate risk assessments, crisis interventions, and violence prevention strategies as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district policies and procedures related to student services, IDEA, ADA, and RTI.
  • Foster a positive school climate by supporting initiatives that encourage respect, safety, and equity.

IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF:
  • RI Social Emotional Learning Standards & Common Core Standards.
  • Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS).
  • Principles of effective instruction, learning, and classroom management.
  • Data analysis techniques and accountability measures.
  • Federal and state laws related to IDEA, ADA, and MTSS requirements.
  • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and urban school turnaround strategies.
  • Effective methods of family engagement and culturally responsive practices.

SKILLED AT:
  • Leadership, staff supervision, and team facilitation.
  • Public speaking, writing, listening, problem-solving, and dispute resolution.
  • Coaching administrators and teachers to strengthen schoolwide practices.
  • Research, data collection, and program evaluation.
  • Interpersonal skills and building collaborative relationships.
  • Innovation and independent problem solving.
  • Using instructional technology to support learning and data management.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license.
  • Rhode Island Building Level Administrator Certificate (required).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful performance as a school administrator or teacher leader.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations in an urban school district.
  • Experience supporting students with Autism, behavioral, and social/emotional challenges.
  • CPI certification and/or experience conducting risk assessments.
  • Evidence of management, strategic planning, and program development skills.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly with parents and families.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:
  • Full Pawtucket School Department benefits package.
  • Salary commensurate with experience and aligned to administrator salary scale.
  • Some summer days required for training.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the United States required.
SALARY:
  • $115,000-$125,000
