Job Description General Definition of WorkThe dean of students, under moderate supervision, performs intermediate level work with limited decision-making discretion administering student discipline. Position facilitates an atmosphere in which learning is of the upmost importance by implementing policies to maintain student discipline. Responsibilities include overseeing discipline plans and programs which enable students to acquire the social and interpersonal skills necessary for academic achievement. Employee performs complex work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the building level principal.
Essential Functions- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Enforce policies, procedures, and rules regarding behavior on school property; maintain order in a fair and just manner
- Assist with the supervision and monitoring of student activities such as lunch, class changes, assemblies, concerts, dances, and sporting events
- Provide direct support to school administrators and staff regarding behavioral issues
- Assist with the development and implementation of the school discipline plan and behavior management programs
- Coordinate school bus supervision before and after school
- Oversee and coordinate the activities of the campus security associate and the ISS program
- Observe and document behavior of individual students; maintain accurate records of student progress
- Monitor and supervise students' truancy and tardiness; follow up in cases of unexcused or excessive absences
- Monitor students on probation or with criminal records
- Collaborate with school resource officers and local law enforcement agencies to make referrals if necessary
- Maintain communication with parents/guardians in relation to student conduct and discipline; attend parent conferences as necessary
- Provide for student and parent due process in accordance with provisions of federal, state and school system rules and regulations; ensures confidentiality of all student records.
- Works cooperatively with social services and community agencies in accessing resources for students and their parents.

Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree required
- Valid NC teaching license required
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in education or related area required
- Equivalent combination of experience and education
