SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
SHREWSBURY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, MASSACHUSETTS
The Shrewsbury, MA School Committee invites highly qualified candidates with a proven ability to lead in a high-performing, collaborative district to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools.
Shrewsbury is a vibrant community with a rich history. It offers a wide range of attractions for residents, including beautiful parks, Lake Quinsigamond for boating and fishing, and Dean Park for outdoor activities. Shrewsbury has a representative Town Meeting form of government. The municipality is administered by a five-member Select Board and a Town Manager. Its schools are overseen by a five-member elected School Committee and a Superintendent.
Shrewsbury Public Schools (SPS) is consistently ranked in the top fifteen percent of districts in the state. The district provides a strong and enriched academic foundation for students in a positive, safe, and supportive environment that builds a strong sense of belonging and community. The district is currently in the third year of a five-year strategic plan that was developed with a high level of stakeholder feedback and reflects the district's mission and core values and the vision for students outlined in the Portrait of a Shrewsbury Graduate. Its core values guide the educational mission of the Shrewsbury Public Schools PK-12 and are well-evident in the daily operation of each of the schools and throughout the leadership of the district.
Shrewsbury Public Schools educates a diverse population of 5,867 students in nine schools, Pre-K through Grade 12. The town recently voted to support completing a feasibility study under the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) for the renovation and expansion of Shrewsbury High School. A Pre-K through Grade 4 capital planning study was recently completed. Both the Sherwood Middle School and the Beal Elementary School, built under the MSBA grant program, were recognized as model schools.
The FY26 SPS budget is $104.5M ($90.3M town appropriation and $14.2M in grants, tuitions, fees). The district enjoys the support of parents and the wider community and has experienced long-term financial stability due to a successful $9.5 million proposition 2 ½ override in 2021.

About the Position of Superintendent of Schools
The successful candidate will guide a dedicated team of educators in advancing instructional excellence, equity, and innovation through a clear and strategic vision for student success.
This leader will develop and drive strategic priorities, ensure operational and fiscal responsibility, foster a professional culture grounded in respect, accountability, and well-being, and build strong partnerships with an engaged community and supportive School Committee.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership: Drive the district's Commitment to Educational Excellence by ensuring high standards, rigorous curriculum, and equitable outcomes for all students.
Management and Operations: Direct the operational and fiscal management of the district to ensure efficiency, equity, and transparency, in alignment with the Commitment to Optimization of Resources.
Family and Community Engagement: Act as the primary representative for the district, building collaborative, trusting relationships essential to the Core Value of Collaboration & Communication and the district mission.
Professional Culture: Model and champion a professional environment rooted in integrity, fairness, and the Commitment to Enhanced Well-Being of All.
Selected Qualifications
Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a Superintendent in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field required; doctorate preferred
Substantial professional experience in education, demonstrating progressively greater leadership responsibility, is required, with emphasis placed on proven competencies and a strong record of success.
Demonstrated record of achievement in instructional leadership, strategic planning, and team development; preferred experience in school finance, collective bargaining, municipal collaboration, and Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) project management
The Shrewsbury School Committee is prepared to offer a regionally competitive benefits package (which includes professional development, travel reimbursement, an annuity, and more) and a salary range of $210,000 to $260,000 to a leader with exceptional credentials, accomplishments, and promise. The actual offer will depend on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Review of applications will begin on January 20, 2026. The expected start date for the new Superintendent is July 1, 2026.
