The School Committee of North Smithfield Public Schools, Rhode Island invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools.

About the Town of North Smithfield
The Town of North Smithfield is primarily a residential community, with a population of just over 12,000. North Smithfield is conveniently located 33 miles southwest of Boston, Massachusetts; 17 miles north of Providence, Rhode Island; and on the Uxbridge, Massachusetts line. The Town enjoys easy and direct access to the state's major highways, including Routes I-95, 295 and 146.

North Smithfield provides a high level of municipal services to its residents, including an excellent school system, with a well-equipped and maintained high school, and an up-to-date town library. The residents of North Smithfield take great pride in their community. The town's historic nature has been preserved and protected for the enjoyment of all. About North Smithfield Public Schools

The North Smithfield Public Schools serves approximately 1625 students housed in three high-performing PK-12 schools with a history of academic success. The 2025-26 budget is $32,365,189. The school district boasts:

About the Position of Superintendent
The North Smithfield School Committee is seeking an articulate, respected and experienced educator to serve as its Superintendent of Schools. As Superintendent, the successful candidate is responsible for: developing and maintaining a positive educational program that is designed to meet the needs of the community; providing leadership according to the vision of the District; caring for and supervising the schools as well as the employees of the District; and complying with requirements of Title 16-2-11 of the Rhode Island General Laws.

Desired Qualifications and Skills for the New Superintendent (Selected)
•Rhode Island Certification as School Superintendent.
•Ten (10) years' experience as a teacher, administrator, and/or director in a school system.
•Master's Degree required; Doctorate preferred.
•Demonstrated strengths in budget and fiscal development.
•Developing and implementing guaranteed and viable curriculum as well as promoting professional development for all staff.
•Experience in Personnel and Labor Management.
•Experience and working knowledge with school-based computer technology as it relates to job responsibilities.
•Able to establish and maintain professional relationships with community members, school staff, school committee, town officials and parents. (Transparency is a must.)
•Able to work collegially with principals or designees to ensure that each school carries out its role.
•Demonstrated ability to effectively handle complex district-wide issues using a problem-solving approach.
•Strong oral and written communication skills.
•Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and maintain high expectations for all learners.
•Satisfactory attendance and work record.

Compensation
The North Smithfield School Committee is prepared to offer a multi-year contract with a regionally competitive annual salary and benefits package to a future-focused leader with exceptional credentials, accomplishments, and promise.

Review of applications will begin on February 23, 2026. Preliminary interviews are planned for March 2026. An appointment is expected by July 1, 2026, and the anticipated start date for this position is July 15, 2026.
